UO Thursday (12/4)

I find it hard to believe half of the day has gone by (east coast time) and no one has an unpopular opinion to share. So let's hear what you've got.

I don't say why I edited for spelling but if I do edit because enter got hit early or mobile decided I was done with my post I do.

  • UO: I seriously side eye people who quit working because they say they were just working to pay for daycare.

    There. I feel better now.

I think it's fine to stay home because you want to, you think it's best for your family, etc. But if that is the only reason, I'd strongly encourage working through it so you aren't giving up raises, promotions, time with adults, and all that stuff. Your pay doesn't stay stagnant for that long (I hope!)

Now I'm off to a lunch meeting, I expect to be flamed to hell and back when I return.

I also think there are other reasons to stay working other than just the salary. I am continuing to work because I teach and jobs here are nonexistent. If I quit, I don't think I'd ever find another job!

However, I do think it depends on the field and salary for people. Teachers don't really get promotions or any ways to "move up" so when returning to work the salary wouldn't be that different. Also, while I do think daycare is temporary; for some families who were to have 3-4 kids they may have 9+ years of daycare before all the kids attended school. Anyway, doesn't really bother me what other people do but I get your point.

  • @trollsniper‌ I thought that too; that we were supposed to say why. I just noticed it from lurking and started doing it when I posted. Now I use my phone a lot and make more mistakes! It would be nice to not add why for just little things! None of this answered your question, just wanted you to know I was also wondering the same thing!

  • @trollsniper I'm glad you brought this up. I have noticed that the regulars do it often and I wonder is I'm expected to do it as well. I've edited a couple of posts here and there for wording and/or spelling. So I agree with you, I don't see its necessary.

  • I often immediately edit for autocorrect mistakes that I notice immediately after I post. I don't feel like the need to add a disclaimer. If a lot of time has gone by and I feel like many people have seen the error, I will note that I made a change.

I do often feel bad when I make dumb typing mistakes and I want to fix them before anyone sees. All we really know about each other is based on reading what we all write, I don't want to come across like an idiot.

My UO- if you are going to "go there" and ask me about my birth plan (extremely personal question, BTW) when I say I am having a c-section, DON'T do the following:
    1) get judgmental and say they are over done. There are issues you don't know about and I don't have to explain them.
    2) don't tell me "well, it's not 'real' surgery." OH REALLY? Are you going to have every layer of your abdomen cut open and a PERSON pulled out? No? Then STFU.
    3) don't tell me horror stories about someone you know wasn't numb when they started cutting and immediately passed out from the pain/shock and started coding.
Why would you do that?!? I already struggle with anxiety!

Who says it's not "real" surgery???

A shocking number of people!!! I think they are trying to calm nerves or make small talk, but I want to punch them in the throat when they say it... Assholes.

How interesting that #1 and #2 are so contradictory!

  • I had a home birth with midwives and used hypnobirthing techniques for my first. All the other moms I know who had homebirths ask me "Wasn't it amazing? Wasn't it so empowering?"
Nope. It was awful. I hated it and I'm delivering my next at the hospital. I'm sure it's a combination of my particular delivery and my care providers really cracking under pressure, but it was not peaceful or gentle or any of the things it is stereotypically thought to be. I haven't heard of anyone else who hated their home birth, and if someone is planning on it, I wish them the best of luck, but never again for me.

  • Mu UO...I don't like all of the gimmicky trends in 5k's and other runs. I'm talking mud runs, color runs, foam runs, and whatever else. I love running for its purity...it's just running and I think there is something simple and Spartan about that. All that other stuff just junks it up.
I hate running so I'm not a good example, but I think those runs are introducing a lot of people to the sport, and that's always a positive.

You've got to be freaking kidding me! Wow! Like everyone has a story so it seems but luckily no one has told me anything bad. Like even my mom's c-section stories aren't bad but my brothers... but he was premature due to needing to save his life so... like again, circumstances.

Most of the stories my mom and gma have told me have been hilarious... they probably weren't at the time, but the concept is just funny. Like apparently i was butt first, thus needing a c-section. And when they got my mom cut open... apparently i was ready bc i shoved my arm out like something out of alien or something. So there's a goofy cs story for you. I was a problem child at birth. XD

    Holy shit.

I thought it was bad when people were telling me they hated our name choices and offering there unsolicited name advice.

I never expected crap like that to be said.

I am sorry people are such stupid jerks.

@souptin This is why we tell people who ask that we are naming him Adergoole. :)
