How warm do you keep your house?

I'm always cold and would like to keep our thermostat set higher, but I also don't want to pay a ridiculous heating bill every month, so we usually have it at 70-72 degrees. However, my parents have theirs set a lot lower, around 65-68. How warm (or cold) do you keep it in the winter? This is all in Fahrenheit, sorry for anyone who uses Celsius!

I keep it at 70 during the day and our program turns it down to 68 when DS goes to bed and back up when he wakes up. Honestly, I think turning it down for 12 hours every day saves us a TON.

This question is going to vary so much depending on your particular house though. My parents keep their heat at 71 and their house is always so much colder than my house. I think a good rule of thumb is keep it as cold as you can stand. If you've put on socks/sweatshirt and are still cold, turn up the heat. Our basement refuses to warm up at all so we have a space heater down there that we run since that is where DS's playroom is.

I keep it around 67-68. Once in a while I bump it higher, but if anyone is cold, I usually tell them to go put on warmer clothes.

64. It's comfortable. We live in the north, we're used to the cold

I wouldn't mind a bit warmer during the day, but at night I like it cold so I can curl up with my blankets. We have a space heater for DS, his room stays at 68.

We have a Nest thermostat on each floor and have it set to be 68 on the floors we occupy when we are there, and then adjust down to between 62-65 during away/asleep hours.

See if you qualify for a programmable thermostat from the company who provides your heat (electric or gas). Our state offers both a free version and rebates toward a more expensive programmable option, which has saved us a ton of money!

@luxannie - this is our house!! Our upstairs is always so much warmer. Our basement is freezing, main floor is comfortable, upstairs is warm. I have the fan on in our bedroom year round.

For the record, I had to google a Fahrenheit-to-Celcius calculator so I could understand everyone's numbers haha...

Anyways, we keep our around 73 or so. I prefer it a little cooler TBH, but it gets really cold downstairs where BIL lives with his family and we don't want them to freeze (we control the heat for the whole house). The thermostat turns itself down a little bit overnight though.

69-70 at night because DS's nursey has two shitty windows so I try to keep him from freezing. During the day 70-71.

We split between 67-68. DH likes to keep it at 67, and usually it's fine, but some days it just feels so much colder so I will bump it up a degree or two. If we turn on our fireplace, our main room will get much warmer.

It is between 70-73 degrees. I don't think the thermostat gives a really good reading of the true temperature in our house. Dh and my bedroom is always cold, but the kitchen is warm, etc. if it is any warmer, I get too hot at night,

75 to 78 in the rooms I'm permitted to control. The Mr. likes it below 65, but that's not happening. Compromise rooms are usually around 72 when we're all home.

Where's the Canadian version? @Meggiemuggins‌ and I had to break out the ole Google Calculator! So 68 at night and 70 during the day. DH will turn it down to 66 on me, but I hate that. My nose gets cold and I usually sleep with my hoodie up and a pillow over my head to conserve body heat. I'm such a wimp.

I would die of heat lol I'm a hot body. Before kids we would turn down thermostat to 64 at bedtime and the rest of the time our house was 66-67

Another one in California here! We've only just stopped using our air conditioner since it's been raining the last couple days. It has still been lingering around 75 in the house though. I wish it would get cooler.

Since having the kids, we set the thermostat at 71 degrees, but our house is also very drafty. Before kids we set it at 68 and froze our tails off because we didn't want a huge heating bill!

I feel like we are overheating our house! 71 during the day(winter) and 73/74 at night. We raise it at night because DS doesn't keep blankets on and we do not use a sleep sack.

I have this concern too. DD wants nothing to do with blankets so I'm always afraid she'll get cold at night. Otherwise we would probably turn it down more when we go to bed.

I'm bad at this conversion thing. House is 62, keep DS' room at 69 for night time. Im sick today so I turned it up a bit. For all my fellow Canadians, that's 17 for the whole house, 21 for the boys room. I went crazy and turned it up to 18 for a few hours.

SS we have central heat but choose to use space heaters instead.

The thermostat usually reads around 70 though.
