Spotting in 2nd Tri: UPDATE

I'm 16w3d and tonight I've been spotting a little throughout the night. Little red globs. I called the after hours advice nurse and she didn't think I needed to go in tonight because I'm not filling maxi pads or having other alarming symptoms. But she said my midwife will call first thing in the morning and may want to see me.

Of course my mind is going to the worst, like something's wrong with the placenta and they can't do anything anyway so no point to being seen tonight.

Please tell me your positive stories of spotting in 2nd tri and it turning out well!

UPDATE: I went in today and Doppler and ultrasound confirmed baby is ok and placenta looks good and is high. Cervix is closed, no yeast infection. The OB said the bleeding was probably from my cervix, which is highly vascular and has a lot of blood flow during pregnancy, and when she touched it with a swab it bled easily. She says it toughens up over pregnancy. :P All good news and such a relief! I cried like a baby when I heard that precious heartbeat on the Doppler.

I also had spotting at 16 weeks. It turned out to be complete previa. I was put on bed rest, and it did resolve its self by 20 weeks. I would make an appointment for an ultrasound, so they can see where your placenta in lying. Good luck!!

I had spotting at 25 and 30 weeks with my last pregnancy (a bit later but still 2nd tri at 25 weeks). They couldn't ever figure it out, they just said it happens. Try not to worry and see if your doc will get you in for an ultrasound.

I have not had spotting in the 2nd trimester, but did in the first. It was bright red globs and scared the crap out of me. When I had an ultrasound the tech did say she could she a little spot that probably caused it, but to not worry about it. Take care!!

I had spotting at 29 weeks with my daughter.. never figured out what it was and it just stopped and she was fine. I had weird mucus like spotting.. like pink with my loss though and that was almost 20 weeks. I could be nothing.. we never really know.. but to be safe I would definitely schedule an appt. I kind of let mine go a few days and thought it was nothing and then finally went to triage and no one believed anything was wrong.. and by the time they figured it out it was too late. I always go with better safe than sorry..

Good luck! I know it's so stressful and hard not to think of the worst. I would just get checked out to give you some peace of mind!

Have you had ultrasounds so far? did they ever see like a subchorionic hemorrhage? That could cause spotting too. I had that with my son. It just looked like a little sac of blood on u/s and they told me it would just resolve on it's own and that I could bleed as a result.. I did spot and it did go away.
