Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Sleeping Arrangements

I have tried a couple different sleeping arrangements with my almost 2 month old.
Right now, we are sharing beds. What worked for you guys? or what did you guys do when your
baby was very young? I'm struggling...

Re: Sleeping Arrangements

  • My LO is 3 1/2 months and is going through a difficult sleep transition.  He was sleeping in the PnP in our room almost exclusively; now it is a mix between the PnP, sharing the bed with me, and his swing in the living room.

  • At 3 months old, my daughter is still in the rock and play next to our bed. I like it because I can reach out of bed with my foot to rock her if she's fussing but doesn't need to eat. I personally didn't want to bed share because I can't sleep without a blanket on me and I don't sleep well with LO in bed with me. We transitioned my son out of the rock and play when he was 6 weeks old. The second time around, I'm keeping her close longer so I can get every precious second of sleep. :)

Crib and Rock n Play in DD's (7 weeks) own room. My DH is a very light sleeper so room sharing didn't work.  In the first 2 weeks she was in a Pack n Play because we hadn't put together her crib yet. Now she usually sleeps and naps in her crib. We put her in the RnP when she's having more reflux symptoms (her reflux is pretty mild). DD is an unusually good sleeper though. Right now she can sleep anywhere that's not extremely bright or noisy. That'll probably change later though lol.
  • LO was in the bassinet next to our bed for the first 10 weeks. Once he started waking himself up frequently by hitting his hands on the side of the bassinet, we decided it was time to move him to larger sleeping quarters - his crib in his own room. We use a baby monitor to hear him cry only because I'm paranoid I won't hear him otherwise.

Co-sleeping was never even considered for us. We both roll too much, have dogs in the bed and my husband is a HEAVY sleeper. I hope nothing ever happens in the middle of the night, as I will have to single-handedly drag my husband outside, lol.

  • co sleeping.  DD slept with us in our bed until she was 18 months.  It took some work but now at age 2 she sleeps perfectly fine through the night in her big girl bed.  DH swore we weren't going to co sleep with #2 but here we are.  It's the only way we are ever able to get sleep.

  • I have nightmares frequently of smothering lo in bed with me. He sleeps in pnp in my room since night one and that's where he will stay until his crib.
  • Our 10 week old was sleeping beside our bed in the rock n play but just last week we transitioned him into his pack in play which is also beside our bed. We have his crib set up but we are more comfortable with him in the room with us for now. We never bedshared because I am to much of a spas lol but I know many people who do and love it but they said it makes transitioning to a crib/toddler bed more difficult!
  • We bedshared with our now three month old from the time he was one or two weeks old. It was tough as the hospital put the fear of god into us about giving him his own sleeping space. As I am breastfeeding, this arrangement gives me the most sleep anyway. If you are breastfeeding you may want to check out the book Sweet Sleep published by the La Leche League - great co sleeping tips. Might be good for formula users too but I'm not sure as I wasn't thinking about that as I read it.
  • My LO is 10 weeks old. We have her sleeping in a bassinet next to our bed 95% of the time. Occasionally we will put her in her RnP next to the bed if she's congested or having reflux issues. Very rarely I will put her in bed with us and it will only be for an hour or so to quiet her down.
