Lor-uh. We also have the same thing with my daughter, Lauren. We say it lor-en. But I have heard that other regions say it more like Law-ren, so I imagine those people might say "La-rah" too.
Laura rhymes with Maura. If you don't say More-uh, why would you say Lore-uh?
Actually I do say more-uh. I also pronounce Maurice more-eese.
Laura - lore-uh
Lara - lah-ra
This is me too.
How else are people saying Maura?
For me, Laura, Nora, Cora and Maura all rhyme.
That's funny. I didn't respond to that first comment because I was like "oh my god, how am I supposed to be saying Maura?" I thought I was weird. I agree with you that those all rhyme. Must be all about regional dialects I guess!
This is bizarre to me. I've never heard anyone pronounced Lor-uh. I've lived in the Carolinas for almost my whole life. They are all definitely law-uh.
My name is Laura... And I do not think any of these pronunciations quite capture how I pronounce my name. I'd say it is somewhere between the "or" and "awr" sounds, but I am not sure how to represent it in a way that makes sense... If I had to choose, I'd say it is closer to "or" but it does not quite rhyme with Dora to me (though the way I hear other people say it, it often does). I do not mind that pronunciation, it's just not quite how I say it.
