It really just depends on your comfort level. I've see people announce as early as 4w and some not until baby is here. We don't announce on FB until we are in our second tri, so I announce after my first appointment in the second tri. We hear the heartbeat again and then I feel comfortable. So probably 14-15w. As for immediate family we tell them right away, the way I figure it I want their support if God forbid the worst should happen. Extended family usually around the very end of the first tri 10-12 weeks.
I did it at thanksgiving I was 8 weeks and a few days. We had an u/s to confirm that everything looked alright before we told, but I probably would have regardless. It really all depends on what you wanna do!
We are telling our families for Christmas. Since everyone is on FB and will probably tell the others that are not there at that time, we will most likely do a FB announcement the next day. But we shall see. We will be just shy of 9 weeks.
I'm curious about that too. My mom had several miscarriages. That's not to say that I'm going to, but it is a concern in the back of my mind. I definitely want to tell my family. Like most people probably at Christmas. By then I will be about 2 months along. (Going to the Dr next week to confirm). If the Dr says everything looks good, we may tell family sooner.
I want to wait to tell friends until after at least week 12.
We started telling people after our NT scan at 12 weeks. We were able to hear the HB, know that the baby was healthy, and the U/S actually showed what looked like a baby not a grain of rice.
