Hi Ladies Currently pregnant with number 2 and due in May. Does anyone have experience with Hygeia pumps? I have an Ameda from my last pregnancy would like to try something new. I am weary of Medela solely based on the open system design.
I got a hygeia through my insurance program. I also had a Medela PISA from my previous DD. I only used my PISA for 4 weeks with DD1. I didn't like the hygeia at all. The shield were way to large for me ( i had the smallest size). So I had bruising. After 6 weeks of use the writing on the collection cups were completely worn off. I contacted customer service and they said there was nothing they could do for me. I switched back to my PISA and its much, better. If you are the only user on an open system there is no reason to be weary of it. My milk doesn't even come close to being in contact with the machine at all.
I have been having no luck getting any meaningful volume from my Hygeia. My old Ameda with a dying motor works better. It's like the flanges are too deep for my short nipples. I don't get it.
I have the Hygeia Q and really like it. I get good output, really like the adjustable speed and strength, and the parts are easy to wash (no tiny membranes like Medela). I did get a set of Pumpin Pals flanges, and I like those way more than either the Hygeia or Medela flanges. I've never seen milk in the tubes. If the flanges aren't working for you on ANY pump, you need to get the right size or you're going to have issues. I've seen a lot of great reviews on the Hygeia and I'm really glad I went with it.
I have a very similar experience. I loved my Hygeia, and am still using it. I did start seeing some milk in my tubes after about 10 months of use, but replacing the valves/tubes fixed that completely.
I liked my Hygeia, too. I had twins and EP'd for one, so I pumped a lot. Around four months I rented a hospital grade Medela because I wasn't responding as well. I still used my Hygeia for work pumping and in the car for the remaining 8 months of that first year. I probably used it as much in 4 months as most people use it in a year. I also liked Hygeia parts and used them with my Medela rental. I thought Medela parts were crap. I never had milk in the tubes with my Hygeia. Anyway, it's nice that they can go together so you can pick the brand that works for you.
