SAHM Check-in 12/2

What were your successes this week?

What was your biggest challenge or struggle this week?

What helped save your sanity?

Topic for the week: The Holidays  ( I think in the SAH check-in we all do Xmas, Hanukkah, or both.  If not, my apologies.)  are upon us and all too soon after birthdays will roll around.  What are you thoughts on gift giving to LO?  Give a little or spoil rotten?

GTKY:  Best and worst things about winter.

Feel free to bring up any other thoughts, feelings, or concerns you are having.

  • Sorry I'm late to the game. Yesterday was not a good day and DH is sick so everything was topsy turvy.

What were your successes this week?

We survived Thanksgiving and everything went well! Very minimal family drama. :)

What was your biggest challenge or struggle this week?

DH being super sick and trying to get back into routine. We really have been out of a normal routine since our trip mid November.

    What helped save your sanity?

In spare time, I've written now 2 articles that I may potentially submit to a website I like and see if they post them. Writing them has just been more theraputic than I thought.

We are trying to find a good halfway point. Don't want to go overboard, but I think we will have more fun with this little guy as long as he's the only child. After a few years though, I like the idea of 4-5 things. 1 big gift, the rest are clothes, books, etc. We will probably spoil less for the birthday with a fun toy and some summer clothes.

GTKY:  Best and worst things about winter.

Best is the snow. I grew up near LA so snow did not become a part of my life until college. I like it as long as I don't have to drive when it's bad out.

Worst: My addiction to hot chocolate...which doesn't bode well with my weight loss attempts this year. :(

  • @Meghan14 I hear you on the dry skin. Utah is super dry. Though I'm looking forward to not having the extra pregnancy induced dry skin on top of that. So.Much.Lotion.Last.Year.

@Madisonpenny  congrats on the doctor compliments. Way to go mom!

@sjelwood LO became completely mobile (crawling) over the holiday. Looking forward to getting a gate so I can more easily turn my back for a few when he's crawling around. We have stairs going up and down in the LR/Kitchen area.

@carleys My LO had a similar problem when he was little. He hated being around so much stimulation. He's grown out of it now. Could be a stranger anxiety mixed with extra kids running around he's a bit more concerned? Just random thoughts. Ignore if they are crazy. :)

@BmBrinson Hugs on the tough week. And sending you a virtual cheering section on finishing the last 2 assignments! I can't imagine doing school with LO! Kudos to you on making it all work!

@ellewills618 Welcome! I am not perfect but I made a list of the weekly chores and put them on a note card in my pantry separating them to different days. I hate Wednesdays because that's my toilet days. I feel like assigning chores to certain days helps me feel more on top of it.

@Bookshelves HUGE Hugs. I'm so sorry. I hate how easy it is to forget that we're not home all day doing nothing. There is a little person that always has to come first, then our sanity/energy..THEN the housework.
  • @bookshelves I'm sorry that DH made you feel bad. I was in a similar situation in April. DH had surgery and basically did no parenting/housework for 6 weeks. And then complained to my mom that I wasn't keeping house good enough. And she told me to do better. Meanwhile, I was doing everything -- including the things he does around here, having a hard time nursing, heading back to work, dealing with over-the-top feels about my school closing... It was incredibly hurtful. I understand how you feel. I suspect my MIL always had a spotless house as well. But I also know all she ever talks about is how she popped H in the playpen for hours upon hours every single day. Oh. If I did that (and ignored the ensuing hysterics) I'd be more productive too.

What were your successes this week? Hosting Thanksgiving -- making a delicious meal that was totally organized and prepared ahead of time so I could actually enjoy the holiday instead of being banished to the kitchen. Also? Not smacking MIL verbally or otherwise.

What was your biggest challenge or struggle this week? I'm feeling really overwhelmed, and I'm feeling like everything is taking 4 times longer than necessary. The first three weeks of Dec are always busy for me because of Christmas programs at church and school. Add in the insanity of not seeing my school kids since the first week of Nov (thanks again, Snowvember), and it's just overwhelming. I really need for LO to be on board with napping so I can be productive, but that's simply not happening. So then I get more overwhelmed because I'm trying to multi-task and things take even longer.

What helped save your sanity? Dark Hot Chocolate from Tim Hortons and an observation from my mom that MIL is coocoo.

The plan was give a little. But great sales, etc., and I've purchased more than I expected (but spent about what I expected). I figure I'm buying toys for future use as well -- it's not like every single toy is going to be available for play every single day. So I got MegaBloks -- but they'll probably be stored for awhile. With a Feb. birthday, I'll need to refresh toys throughout the year, so this is part of my plan.

GTKY:  Best and worst things about winter. I hate being cold. I hate being outside in precipitation. I love curling up and watching the snow from the warmth of my couch while reading a good book and sipping hot cocoa. I like sweaters and scarves and boots. They're much more flattering than shorts and tanks.

Feel free to bring up any other thoughts, feelings, or concerns you are having.

  • BTW @meghan14 thanks for hosting this check in!

And because I just randomly thought of her...has anyone been in contact with @madelyn0713? She used to check in here pretty often, but it's been a long time since I've seen her name. I know we've lost a lot of F14ers, but she was here into the fall.
