Stretch & sweep AND accupunture

in December 2014 Moms
anyone had success from s&s or accupunture (done specifically for induction not just stress relief).. Had a S&S yesterday was really cramping and even had some low back pains and contractions but not regular... Today I woke up and it's all gone. I heard it can take up to 48hrs to work if it's going to but just curious if anyone experienced similar symptoms and still went into labor?
Also, started accupunture to help induce, was wondering if anyone had success with that?? Today will be my 3rd treatment... Really trying to get baby out before induction on the 15th!

    No offense but even with the search there are a lot of post about sweeps and all of them keep saying to search, so it's not exactly easy to find answers to this. Then, you go back far enough and people are talking about literally sweeping their houses. So thank you, but if someone has experience in this a simple response of their account of it would be really helpful.

    Maybe try searching membrane? I think they've mostly been referred to as membrane sweeps so that might get you better search results. No exp here.

    I have 3 dogs. My house needs to be swept daily. Even that isn't enough. It hasn't been done in a week.
    I am also due Friday and although I really want this baby out, I can't imagine doing any of these things right now.

    No help here. I wouldn't do a membrane sweep, but my house does need swept.

    OMG... ditto. No membrane sweep, but if someone would come to my house and sweep, that would be excellent. I am seriously the worst sweeper in the world. It's true.


    HAHAHAHHA whoever is doing all this actual sweeping can come here too! In fact, if you have a mop that would be even better! Lol tried the "membrane sweep" search .. Not so effective. Guess that's what Google is for. Lol

    My doctor offered me a membrane sweep yesterday at 39 weeks and I refused. She said that it is painful and only sometimes works.  I'll reconsider next week after my due date.  I'm also going for acupuncture weekly for "cervical ripening", not for induction though.  Sorry I couldn't be more help.  Good luck!

    Swiffers are the best!!! Helps keep up with a dog plus a relatively new wool rug that might shed more than my dog. Never thought that was possible.

    I had a membrane sweep at my 38 week appointment (against my better judgement) it was extremely painful and I've had no cramping and no Contractions since . (Monday) now I will just let nature take its course. Lesson learned.

    We don't even own an indoor broom-- Dyson stick vac, best thing ever!


    I had a membrane sweep my last pregnancy at 40 weeks.  I had mild cramping that evening and went to work the next day.  I went into labor that night, about 30 hours after the sweep.  Never had acupuncture, so can't comment there.

    The 15th is almost 2 weeks away, try to relax.

    Showing some Pittsburgh here( @pooky08) when you say sweep, you use a sweeper (vacuum) not a broom.

    Had a membrane sweep Monday, been having irregular contractions since and had my show this morning. Contractions are now picking up, fingers crossed it keeps up. I'm 38+3. Hope it works for you

    Had it done 3x with DD1 and did not work. Worked the first time with DD2 (she was born 21hrs after the membrane sweep). Can't have it done this time due to being GBS positive. :-( :::cries:::

    So you had an S&S performed but didn't ask your doctor about the details of the procedure?

    My doctor said in his experience it works in 1 of 4 women, and if it hasn't worked within 24 hours then your body just isn't ready yet.

    I do acupuncture regularly and swear by it. However, I don't know if it works to help get the process started. I would think it does as my acupuncturist mentioned that she is usually starting those treatments at this time with Moms to be. I asked her and my MW NOT to do anything to speed up the process as I want him to stay put until *hopefully* the 19th. (Obviously I know I can't control anything, just hoping to not speed anything up.)

    I'm facing a medical induction next week so I am currently doing acupuncture once a week to help prepare for the induction. I don't believe that acupuncture will actually induce labor unless your body is ready much like the membrane sweep. Some people swear by it, though. I do hope it's helping my body get ready so that the induction will be less prolonged then my first.

    I know when someone shoves their hand up MY vag, I generally ask them a few questions first or at least after.

    I've never heard the expression "stretch and sweep"...?

    I did have my membranes swept multiple times last time. The final time I went into labor that day. There is just no way to know whether hat had anything to do with it. I was doing acupuncture too. I was 5 days late BUT I was 9 days late with the previous one so who knows. I think some people are better at doing the sweeps than others. I have one midwife who seems to do it more effectively- I just feel more crampy etc.
