July 2015 Moms

when and how are you gonna tell the fam

With Christmas coming right around the corner, anyone planning on telling their family at Christmas? And how? I got some super cute ideas off pintrest. How do you think your family will react? I know my mom's going to bawl! It was so hard to not say anything at thanksgiving when she brought wine!

Re: when and how are you gonna tell the fam

  • This is our 4th and last baby.  I am sending out our Christmas card with as the announcement.  It will be a pic within a pic within a pic.   (envision my twins holding the U/S pic, then our oldest will be holding a pic of the twins, who are holing the US and then my DH and I will be holding a pic of my oldest, holding a pic of the twins, holding a pic of the US..)

  • I am going to tell my family either on Christmas or the day after. I found some cute booties on Etsy and wrote a note "You're going to be grandparents". They have really cute stuff on the site. I am not sure how my family will react. This was not a planned pregnancy and I am not married...so we shall see. I am hoping the booties lighten it up a bit. :)

  • I sent them a text of the pee stick six weeks ago lol. So bad at keeping secrets!
  • I saw a Christmas ornament, looked like a snow globe with US pics in it. I'm gonna put baby's first pic on the outside!

Though our immediate family already knows, we are announcing on fb on Christmas day. It's early-- but we are crazy excited. I got DS this shirt:

I intend to have a pic taken of us all in our Chritsmas pj's wishing everyone a happy holiday. I doubt I'll mention the baby-- just see if anyone reads DS's shirt.

  • I ordered a Big Brother shirt from a friend with an etsy store, but want to come up with something clever to go along with it, like a cute "card" image that I can put his big bro shirt photo in for posting on facebook. Probably post around new years, something like Oh Baby, 2015 will be an exciting year...

  • I originally didn't want to do a Christmas reveal. I don't like being the center of attention. The plan was to do Christmas (on the actual day), then that weekend visit my mom then pop down to Austin to visit H's folks.

Well, my mom has to work Christmas day, so our celebration will be on that weekend, which leaves zero time between gift-opening and me leaving out to head to Austin.  :((

Oh well. On to the fun part. Both my mom and his parents will get variations on the same theme:

They will receive a small-ish suitcase-like box. When opened, it will have three boxes inside. Two on each side labeled "not yet" and one treasure-chest-like box in the middle that says "open me first."

On opening the treasure-chest-like box, there will be tiny, cute baby booties in the box and the inside lid will have a note reading, "I am only this big [picture of tiny fruit], but I can't wait to meet you!"

The other two gifts will be a picture of the ultrasound and a cute sign reading "The best parents get promoted to grandparents" for his folks and one reading "Grandma's Kitchen" for my mom.

If they don't spring leaks, they aren't human. :-D

  • I was thinking something like this with a copy of the ultrasound for my SO's mother.. This will be her first grandbaby so she will be the most excited. I'll get around to telling my parents eventually... As I'm not married they won't be incredibly thrilled. Especially my mother. Blah
  • We're hosting Christmas this year with most of DHs and my immediate family.  I'm planning to just change DD when everyone arrives into a "Big sister" shirt and see who notices first.

  • We told immediate family over Thanksgiving.  We had a cake made that read, "To my grandparents to be, see you July 22!"  We told DH's brother and his wife by telling them we wanted to take a picture for a project we were working on.  The three of us got set up for a picture and DH switched his phone from camera to video.  He said, "On three everyone say, 'S is having a baby!'  The video is priceless!

We plan to tell the kids on Christmas Eve provided we hear the heartbeat.  So I'm guessing I will just wait and see if DD mentions it to everyone.  If not I guess we will just announce it.
  • I really don't know when I'm going to tell family. I haven't even told my parents or the bfs. I'm to scared of mc again and so don't want to get anyone's hope up :(
  • We're going to take a photo of our two year old holding/standing next to a sign that says "My role as an only child is coming to an end 'cause Mommy's due with my new best friend! July 2015" and give out an envelope with a picture inside to all of our immediate family members when we see them on either Christmas or the weekend after!
I hope that's not to cheesy?

I think that sounds cute!  How many times in your life will you get to share such wonderful news?  Enjoy it!  It's not cheesy!
  • We have told all our immediate family over the past two weeks. For my mother in law we have her a gift with a bunk, then my family we told during our thanksgiving photo( which was recorded) and my father in law we gave them onesies with #1 and #2 because by then we knew we were having twins, then we went and showed each mother the u/s of the twins. we had lots of smiles and happy tears! And a few screams. We hope to make a whole video compilation of announcing to everyone. And some may say it was too early but no matter what we wanted them to know. It makes life so much easier :)
  • We're giving my mom a bunch of charms to add to her charm bracelet for Christmas. They will all be titles she holds (mother, wife, daughter etc) and there will be one that says Grandmother! This will be her 1st grandbaby and she's been waiting since before we got married so she's gonna be soooo excited! We'll tell his mother (who has 11 grandkids already) at a later time not sure how yet.
  • We're going to have our 2 girls tell their grandparents and aunts & uncles. They're 5 and will-be-7 (Feb) so I think they'll be excited about the news of another baby, but it's going to be a big change for them. So I am hoping that giving them the opportunity to share the news and be part of the excitement will be good for them :)

All of my close friends already know, but as far as like a "facebook announcement" for everyone else, I plan on taking a family pic with the girls each holding a number 1, 2, and me holding a 3 in front of my belly. We're going to SD for Xmas to visit family so I want to take the pic on the beach. I'll wait until January to post that pic though ;)

  • We told immediate family already. I made little favor boxes for everyone (you can buy them made on etsy but I ordered materials and made my own much cheaper) the inside of the box said your going to be a ..." " in July 2015 then it was filled with some Easter grass and a little card with an acorn glued to it that says we are adding another nut to our family tree. Put a little ribbon on it...everyone thought they were getting little boxes of fudge lol
  • I found a big brother to do checklist on etsy (it looks like a chalkboard and says "come into this world" "steal hearts" "learn to walk" "learn to talk" "become a big brother" all with checkboxes next to them and then At the bottom it will say my due date. DS will also be wearing a shirt that says "I'm going to be a big brother". I'll take a picture of it and post that on Facebook and also print them out to announce to the family that we haven't already told. We are waiting til DS birthday January 22nd which is when I'll be 12/13 weeks.
