On average, how much do you spend per person for people besides your own kids and SO? Close family & friends only, not acquaintances/obligations/gift exchanges.

This kid may not have a lot of bowel, but he has plenty of guts!
DS born at 34 weeks with (surprise!) gastroschisis turned short bowel syndrome.
131 days in the NICU, 7 trips to the OR, G-button, daily TPN....
We are impatiently awaiting the day we can say goodbye to his girlfriend Ivy for good.

  • We do somewhere between $30-50 on each of our parents, depending on what we can afford, and $25ish on everybody else.

Except this year I'm going to be spending double on one sister since another a-hole's gift money has recently been freed up :(

  • On both my sides of the family and my in laws, we do an extended family secret santa which has a $50 limit.

Then we also exchange gifts with parents and siblings (and this year my new squishy nephew!), although this year my SIL has stated that money is tight she she won't be exchanging gifts.

With my in laws, gifts are probably around $25-$50/person, and with my family they are closer to $50-$75/person.

  • It depends on our sides of the family. We do a $50 Secret Santa on my side. But then we always get my parents a couples gift, usually a dinner and movie package of some sort that cost about $50.

His side of the family is a little bit more on the "fancy" side so we always spend quite a bit more for them. Parents are probably $150-$200. Siblings are about $75-$100. I think DH feels like our gifts have the be expensive for them because we always get gifted with expansive stuff. :-/

We spend about $100/couple.  My parents, IL's, SIL/husband, and my grandmother /husband.
  • No idea. Not a lot since we're pretty broke. We're only buying for the children in the family this year.
