Anyone here have 2 uteruses

So I'm 8 weeks pregnant and just found out I've got 2 uteruses. So besides lots of crazy complications and seeing lots of extra doctors. Id love to connect with others that either have this or been through it too? They plan to pull the baby 6-9 weeks early because they said if the baby gets too big my uterus will explode and it could kill me.

Re: Anyone here have 2 uteruses

  • What is the plural of uterus-uteri?

  • Sorry if I spelled it wrong. Major nausea all day -not all together right now. It's technically called uterus didelphys
  • Lol I've been researching it like crazy since they told me. When they started talking about the complications hubby almost passed out. Actually started bleeding really heavy and assumed (as did the doctor) that I was having a miscarriage -went in and nope I was on my period and pregnant. There's a first for everything. Def explains why it took years and years to get pregnant though!!

this was seriously my first thought.  i have no clue.

No experience to offer OP, but good luck to you!  I didn't even know that was possible, fx for a healthy pregnancy regardless of your double ute situation!

  • Doesn't that mean that you could get pregnant again while pregnant? I have no experience with this, but FX for a healthy pregnancy.

  • Actually no. Trust me we asked. You CANNOT get the other uterus pregnant once you are already pregnant. But it is totally possible to get pregnant with twins in one of the uterus or for you to have a baby in each. But the likelihood is even less than the odds of having 2 uterus and it has to happen at time of conception. Look it up online -very interesting.
  • Well I've lived this long with them. Yes the doctor said they both are stable -healthy and act separately . Again explains SO much of my infertility, hormones and crazy period problems I've had all my life. Actually did you know we are all born with two vaginas, 2 cervix and 2 uterus. They combine to form one at week 8-12 in uterus. So your born with it. Many people have 2 of everything. I only have 2 uteruses so I'm grateful for that. The kicker is I can the privilege of being on my period like normal the entire pregnancy. I win the weird award for this hour. Lol
  • I have a friend in here who has two uteri. She's one of the coolest people I know. She hasn't been pregnant yet, I don't think.

  • Wow big news! I'm surprised you never knew from previous gynecological follow up. I have a friend with didelphys uterus (she even had one regular vagina and one smaller off the side of the other one vagina)and she has two perfectly healthy children!!! She did have intermittent bleeding with her first child and was on and off bedrest for a few days each time but nothing serious it was more a precaution, she had nothing like that with her second. Her sister actually has it too but only one vagina. Both of them have one uterus that is slightly larger than the other, her kids were Carried in the larger. Good luck with your pregnancy!
  • Fx for a healthy pregnancy.

  • Lots of questions for myself as well. Calm is my only option right now I'll let DH freak out for both of us. He's such a helicopter right now it's cute and annoying!! No I can't get pregnant in my other uterus whole I am already pregnant and yes I will have my period like normal the whole pregnancy. Ironically I have had lots of issues and actually been hospitalized for several cysts rupturing. The only way to know is to have an internal ultrasound with the "wand" and I've had too many of those to count. I guess God just didn't want me to know till now. In fairness the doctor told me you have to be looking for it. For example she's been practicing over 25 years and she didn't see it and had done 2 internal ultrasounds. It took a hospital stanographer to point it out. It's a little scary when all the doctors in the Obgyn come to see your monitor :-) right now I'm more concerned with the all day sickness -awful.
  • No personal experience but my best friend has two as well. She currently has two perfectly healthy babies and had no pregnancy complications. They did watch her closely during both pregnancies and she had to take progesterone. She also ended up with c-sections as a vaginal birth was not possible. Other than that everything was fine! Fingers crossed for you!
  • That's wild! I've never heard of that! T&P for a healthy pregnancy!!

  • Holy moly how interesting!  Well Grey's Anatomy lied to me then.  There was that one episode with the lady with two uteri and she was pregnant in both, but they were like 3 months apart or something.

Had you never gone to the gynecologist before? Or is this something they just missed? Does this mean you will still get monthly periods with the other uterus?  Do you also have four ovaries then or just one ovary per uterus?  This totally intrigues me lol, sorry for all the questions.
I didn't see this on Grey's, but I remember reading something very similar, and the woman supposedly actually had 2 of everything (uterus, cervix, and vagina). I never knew if it was true, but I wonder if you could actually be PG in both if you really have double everything... It seems she also had periods every 2 weeks because they were on different cycles. I have no idea where I heard/saw that, but it seems like it was when I was pregnant with DD and reading all kinds of storied everywhere,

  • This is completely fascinating and sounds like something on Grey's Anatomy. If only your doctor was Patrick Dempsey. :) I have no advice for you but it sounds like you're taking the news really well and you have a good head on your shoulders. Thoughts and prayers for a happy and healthy pregnancy!
