TTC After a Loss

Intro

Hi Ladies,

I'm CC. I lost my daughter Grace on 11/17 at 17 weeks after my water broke unexpectedly (I did a detailed intro on the Loss board if you're interested). This loss really shook me to my core. I guess when you get to a certain point, you foolishly think everything is going to be ok. We still don't know why it happened and it sounds like we may never know for sure. My doctor thinks there may have been a problem with the way the placenta attached - I have a bicornuate uterus, so it could be that or there were thoughts about a possible fibroid.

My next step is seeing a high risk specialist. I go at the end of this month. I think the plan is additional blood work and an HSG. I'd be curious to hear about your experiences with additional testing.

I'm not ready to TTC again until I get the all clear from the high risk specialist, but even then I may delay a little bit so as to not interfere with a major project at work. Of course, this experience has taught me that the world can easily tell you and your plans to go F yourselves, so I guess I'll just see how I feel when the time comes.

I hope to offer support and learn from all of your journeys.

Re: Intro

  • I'm so sorry for your loss ((hugs)) I lost my twins at 21 weeks so I completely understand that feeling of having the rug pulled out from under you when you think you are safe.

Has your doctor suggested IC as an explanation? If you have a bicornuate uterus it can seriously affect your cervix which can lead to sudden dilation and your water breaking.

I'm so sorry you find yourself here.

  • @PinkCamino My cervix was still closed when my water broke so that wasn't offered as an explanation. I was having a lot of bleeding and cramping about 12 hours before my water broke - an ultrasound showed baby was ok and the cervix was long and closed. The ultrasound report said "6x4 cm density in the upper uterine segment may present fibroid versus hemmorrhage." I think that's why they were leaning towards a placental attachment issue.

Thanks @PetraStonegirl‌. I may have some of my terminology mixed up. I had something like a saline sonogram followed by a hysteroscopy about 10 years ago when I was having abnormal bleeding. I also had an MRI after they found the bicornuate. I wasn't interested in babies at all at the time, I was only 20. I don't remember them saying anything about it impacting my fertility or needing to get it fixed. I guess I'll have to do it all again now.
Eta: apparently I need to go to fertility school. I thought HSG stood for hysterosonogram, which I've had before.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. I remember your intro from the Loss Board. I hope meeting with the High Risk doctor will get you come answers. I went to the high risk doctor in my practice and he gave me such hope for the future. I had severe pre-eclampsia so it was a placenta issue.  I'm currently waiting results on the clotting disorders testing and a placental pathology (second opinion from another hospital lab). Good luck!
