Hi, ladies. I had my anatomy ultrasound today, and my cervix length seems a bit in the short side, 2.53 cm. Everything I read says under 2.5cm is a problem, and even at 2.5cm some ladies were given treatments or more frequent checks. I am calling the doctor in the morning. Anyone have experience with this? My due date is may 3, so I am 18 weeks and some change. Oh and my baby is a beautiful, amazing little GIRL!!!!!!!!! We were going to wait to find out the sex, but we couldn't help ourselves! So excited!
Thank you, ladies. Hope you all are having a wonderful night. I feel so, so happy to know I have a daughter!

How are your cervix checks being done? Transabdominal u/s, transvaginal u/s or just manually? How are manual checks done if that's what you're getting? Like does the dr. use a finger to measure or some sort of device? Does it hurt? FTM here, so lost, thanks.
The tech didn't seem to be very experienced. She was young and said she doesn't do many ob ultrasounds because they are hard. She was nice, but I didn't feel like I was in the best hands. Luckily my baby seems just fine so far. Kicking like crazy and moving all over. I found this website that has good information. https://www.keepemcookin.com/prevention.aspx

My dr checks my cervix every 3 weeks by transvaginal US.
I would push for another US and push for a third one next week to ensure it isn't shortening even more. I would also ask what tests they will run to determine why it might be shortening.
I lost my baby at 22 weeks due to an asymptomatic infection. My cervix shortened and I went into preterm labour. I don't want to scare you as your situation is probably different than mine. But make sure your dr is listening to you and you are getting the answers and care you and your baby need.
Remember the Dr essentially works for you.
Good luck and fingers crossed it was just a poor ultrasound.
I would ask for them to be testing for signs of infections. Usually something will appear in a blood screen. In my situation had they found out earlier what was causing the shortening and treated my infection I may not have lost my baby.
The other issue is that the baby has a choroid plexus (sp?) cyst. I'm not really worried since my first trimester screen was all clear, and the baby looks good otherwise, but they will send me for another ultrasound for that in about a month. I'm glad that will be another opportunity to see the cervix length, which is much more concerning to me.
Thanks for your input everyone!

I assume (she did not say this to me), that because the report said my cervix is closed that she thinks I just have a naturally short cervix. I am glad the report doesn't note any funneling which would suggest shortening. I didn't have the report in front of me when I noted the length, I just had the image with the length calculated. She also really stressed it wasn't abnormal, but then I said that if 2.5 is the absolute cutoff for normal, I do not feel good being right there at 2.5, ya know?! She acknowledged what I was saying and we set the earlier appt., but if I hadn't noted the length myself from the image and called in I bet they would not have even mentioned it to me at all. I think that's crazy, but I'm not a dr, and I'm an admittedly overly cautious FTM. And, I always just take it easy, so I'll continue doing so. However, what is interesting is the night before the ultrasound I was VERY upset, like full blown hysterically crying to my husband, wake up with swollen eyes upset. I had this huge, awful fight with my father, and I did feel uterus tightening when I was upset, so I'm wondering if that could have done anything to my cervix length? Needless to say I'm staying away from him. I can't let myself get worked up anymore.
Exactly. And my gut says to keep an eye on this. And that's supppppper scary, preterm labor at 18 weeks, yikes. I hope it ended up okay and I am assuming it did from your sn?
