Hi Ladies! First off, I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends! :)

My question is for you photography guru mommas out there...I am an amateur photographer but am wanting to get into it a bit more seriously...possibly grow it into a part time business.

I would like to purchase some editing software. I do not need, nor can I afford professional grade software. I would like to spend $100-$200...any recommendations for editing programs that are worthwhile at my price point? TIA

  • I have adobe Photoshop elements, which I got for just under $100. It works well and has three settings: they edit for you, you have some control, you have all the control. It works well and is a great compromise from getting the larger photoshop package.

  • I would recommend Lightroom for just getting started.

  • You can now get adobe CC (creative cloud) for 9.99 a month. So 120 a year. This includes Photoshop and light room and will always have the most updated version. Or Gimp is good to start with. Free until you are ready to advance to PS. But definitely limited in usability. I currently use Gimp always nd a light room like tool that I was given for free. They get the job done, but not in the easiest most efficient way. I am getting CC for Christmas.
  • Lightroom 5. I also have Photoshop but I enjoy the workflow process much better in Lightroom. There are plenty of free online tutorials that can help you learn. Many paid programs offer something like a free 30 trial, which is great for finding the program you like. Also, like @shellbell813‌ said, there's the monthly CC if that works best for your needs.
  • Another vote for Lightroom 5! Photoshop terrifies me. I chose to get a license to Lightroom over the creative cloud subscription, thoigh Adobe will really try to sell you the subscription.
