C-section

I had a csection with DS. Just wondering if any other mamas have had Csections with previous pregnancies and if they plan to have another?

Re: C-section

  • I had one with my DD and I plan to do VBAC this time if I'm a good candidate.

  • I had an emergency c/s with my son 5 years ago, then a planned one with my daughter 3 years ago, so this time around it's going to be another planned c/s. The surgery was much better the second time around but damn recovery sucks after.
  • I had an emergency csection with my dd. I am planning to do a planned csection, but I am terrified of the recovery... since I'll be taking care of a newborn and a 23 month old...who I wont be able to pick up! My recovery last time was rough, and I got an infection. I am praying this delivery and recovery goes much smoother!

Ditto this completely, except DS will be 25 months. My OB office doesn't like to do VBACs and I don't care to try for one anyways. Having a planned and scheduled c/s is so much easier all around for travel arrangements for my parents to take care of DS and the dogs. I asked my mom to stay 2 weeks after H goes back to work so that will help get me through almost the first month.

  • I had an emergency c section with DS. Due to narrow pelvic bones. So I will have a RCS the first week of July which will be almost 3 years exactly from my last one. My recovery was brutal but that was because I pushed for 3 hours before my csection so I was just wrecked. I expect this time to be easier.
  • I had an emergency c-section with dd and because this LO will only be born about 12 months later, they will only do a repeat c-section. I guess they like to wait at least 18 months to attempt VBAC
  • I had an unplanned c-section almost 11 months ago. I plan to have a scheduled c-section this time.

Pretty much had the same experience, DS was hooked on my pelvic bone and actually rolled around to try to get out, very traumatic. My OB offered a VBAC but is fairly sure I will need a c-section again, I'd rather not push again just to end in surgery especially with twins.
  • I had an emergency C/S with the twins (my birth story is outrageous, but let's just say after a week on HBR, they put an epidural in the night before for painful contractions, hoping they would stop on their own and with the help of the dreaded magnesium sulfate -- I was in pain all night, by the next morning, when they went to check me -- they saw Baby A's feet. I was in surgery in about 3 minutes. Because my epidural SUCKED, they had to knock me out. It was a blast.).

Because I delivered at 29 weeks, they had to do a classical c/s (vertical incision on the uterus -- still horizontal on the outside- so it looks "normal"). As such, the risk of rupture is significantly higher should I go into labor on my own, so they will not let me go beyond 36/37 weeks -- assuming I make it that far. And, I'll be another c/s, non-negotiable (which, they had to confirm with me before they put me under to deliver with the girls. Trust me, I could have given a crap about future pregnancies at that point!)

  • I had a c-section with my last child, it was an emergency c-section but now I will have a c-section again for my own safety and sound of mind. I was actually a VBAC born and my mother is trying to push me towards that route but my friend went into labor, 3 year after her c-section and before her scheduled c-section, the contractions caused her scar to rupture and by the time they got into operate her child was "floating" out of the sack. There's more to her story but luckily her and baby Alex lived but they were told if it were 5 or 10 years ago it wouldn't be the same story. Her story scared me straight. I wanted Irish twins but my doctor told me to wait 18-24 months to let my scar heal. If I didn't meet my friend I'd probably already have baby #2. I don't mean to scare you, after all I'm a VBAC and my mother and I are perfectly healthy it's just not something I am personally going to risk. Though I do not look forward to the recovery time again.

  • My OB is pro VBAC, but I'm kind of leaning towards an RCS. I'm already considered high risk plus I'll be almost 35 when this baby is born. I'm going to wait to decide until I talk with the OB again.

I know tons of people with successful VBAC stories. My brother was a healthy unplanned VBAC 30 years ago after my mom had an emergency CS with me.
  • I will be having a RCS too. The only thing that bothers me is a longer hospital stay, but we'll figure out care for my son. I'll probably have my H with me in the hospital the 1st night, while my mom stays with my son, and then they'll switch. I don't want my son to go too long without either one of his parents.

  • I had a cs with dd but am hoping to do a vbac this time around. I had a bad experience following the cs (infection, cut opened up 6 weeks following surgery) so i hope to avoid it this time around.

  • I had a c section with my son since he was frank breech and I will be having a c section with this one. I hope my recovery is as easy as it was the first time

  • I had a c-section with my DD nearly four years ago due to her being breech. I go for my first appointment this Friday and plan to discuss the best option this go round, but I'm already on the fence about what to plan if the doc says I can do either. I had a fantastic experience with my c-section and the recovery was easy peasy but I didn't have my little one (who will be 4) to chase around and pick up. There's the fear of the unknown (can I actually have a VBAC) and the ease of planning around a scheduled c-section, but I also don't know about the scar tissue and how much harder it may be to heal the second go round. Plus I've got an entirely new doctor this time; my doc last time was a PRO at c-sections and my scar is nearly non-existent. So many factors to consider!
  • I had an emergency c-section with DS and I plan to schedule this one since there it's twins and I'm scared shitless of shooting one out naturally and ending up having to have a c-section for the other.

This is me too.  Not completely opposed to a VBAC, but leaning more towards a C section.

  • I had an emergency c-section with DS due to a dramatic drop in his heart rate.  Because my pregnancies are close together I'll be a scheduled c-section this time.

  • Hey so I had a c-section before as I noted above but today I talked with my doctor and she told me some pretty awesome news. From my healing the scar is kind of lifted of bubbly looking for lack of better words. She said there's no way of preventing it the first time because you don't know how you heal but when she does this c-section she will cut off the lifted scar tissue, put some medicine on there, and apparently I won't have a lifted scare. Figured I'd share that so if any of you have the same scar you could talk to you your doctor about what mine said at least. I'm not really self-conscious about it (only my husband and doctor see it) but if it could be fixed for free (or included) I say why not.

  • I had a c/s with DD but I will do just about anything to avoid another (obviously keeping the baby and myself safe and healthy). We are driving an HOUR to find a midwife that will let me try for a VBAC.

  • I had a scheduled CS with my second due to placenta previa... I'll be opting for a scheduled CS again mostly because my first broke my tailbone on the way out when I had him vaginally! I do NOT want it to break again, it was a bitch to heal  :-/

Ouch! I didn't even know that was possible. Completely understandable.
