27 Weeks-Question

hi ladies, this is my first pregnancy so I have many questions and this one has to do with my appetite.
I realize baby is growing- 2.5 lbs right now and 15inch long..should I not feel hungry?
I feel miserable because I'm forcing myself to eat because I know he needs it. When I do eat it's usually just cereal so I'm also concerned with him not getting the nutrients he needs. I drink 9-13 glasses of water a day of an evening I crave milk so bad I'll have 3-4 glasses and I'll feel full.
Any suggestions or advice?

Thanks in advance! :)

Re: 27 Weeks-Question

  • Talk to your OB, rask to see a nutritionist to discuss your diet, keep up with vitamins and water.

  • I just wanted to say that there are some days all I eat is cereal. Definitely talk to your OB about it and see what they can do.
  • I have an appt Thursday so I will definitely ask. Thank you!
  • Lol there are days I only eat cereal as well ! I have never wanted cereal so much in my life
  • Makes me feel better, thank you!
  • I certainly feel this way too, at times. I just try to eat smaller portions of healthy stuff (veggies and fruit) when I can. I try to eat before I drink just because at this point in the pregnancy, I seem to get full so fast. I try to alternate between water, fruit juice, and vegetable juice. I don't know how much of a difference that makes, but it makes me "think" that it's better than drinking 19 gallons of water. Talk to your OBGYN. Im sure they will have more meaningful suggestions than what I have said!

  • That's excellent, I do graze on veggies & fruits. Thank you @Mommalawyer‌
  • I have trouble eating throughout my pregnancy. My dietician has advised me to eat more calorie/nutrient dense food. I have trouble eating anything but cereal some days too-I just try and add a banana or some fresh fruit or almonds to my cereal on those days. Also I eat a lot of avocado and cheese on bread, I don't know why but I can force myself to eat it and at least I'm getting something down. When I am hungry I try to pack as much different variety into my meals to make sure I am getting nutrients. A typical meal will be 1/2 a bell pepper, 1/2 cup of beans/quinoa mixed (I call it beanwa) and half a chicken breast and 1/4 an avocado. It's not a lot of food but it is a lot more balanced than cereal and I find having a small amount of each food is easier for me to stomach. Also I was told if I am hungry no matter the time I need to eat, typically I can eat more in the morning than at night because I am not so bloated, so sometimes I eat my lunch for breakfast and breakfast for lunch or dinner. It's no uncommon to see me eating a tuna and avocado sandwich at 9 am (weird I know).
  • As long as you're taking your prenatal vitamins, you shouldn't be too concerned about him getting his nutrients. :)
  • I know that personally my appetite has decreased as baby has gotten bigger and is taking up more space. My MW is not worried and actually said it's pretty common especially for short women like me who run out of space quickly. I try to eat nutrient dense small meals and supplement with green/fruit juices. Snacks usually consist of something with protein like an egg or a string cheese (yes, I'm currently addicted to organic string cheese, go figure). Keep taking your prenatals and know that your baby will take what it needs from you. I'm sure you're doing great
  • I'm just about to hit 31 weeks and my appetite over the last week or so had vanished. I just never feel hungry anymore, just don't fancy anything and heart burn is becoming an issues big time. But I am trying to make sure I start the day right with a good breakfast and lots of fruit and veg even if I have to force them down me.
  • I am 28 weeks today. I can only eat small portions at a time, and I get horrible acid reflux. It's been like that the entire pregnancy. I've only gained about a pound, but I my midwife is not concerned because my baby boy is growing like crazy. I also check in with a nurse over the phone monthly, and we discuss dietary needs.
