(I was raised Southern Baptist though)

    Straight, LGBTQ-Ally & proud!

I believe Abortion should be legal, available safe & unrestricted. I wouldn't want to have one myself, but I believe they should be available.

I think that each community has it's own demons to reconcile. Racism still exists but I think it's becoming "a card" to play to get media play vs. actual discussion of the issues. There is a second wave of civil rights going on right now that is very intense. This includes the push for gay marriage & women's rights movements.

I think cameras on cops would solve a lot of the questions. I'd gladly pay more taxes for this. It would protect everyone. I disagree with this "fuck the police" & "the police are all corrupt" vibe going on though.

I think anyone down on their luck should get a help up. It could be me tomorrow & I understand that. So I am glad to pay more taxes.

    C'mon SAHM. Let's do this ;)

    I'm libertarian, athiest, straight.

I am pro-abortion before viability, but I do think there is a valid argument against abortion if you happen to believe in certain things which I do not.  In short, pro-abortion but I can understand where some people on the other side are coming from.

I know that racism still exists in this country, and I've lived all over the country so I've seen it in many different forms.  I also agree with the previous poster about how the media has turned it into a card and made it pretty near impossible to have any sort of discussion on the matter.

I think government assistance should, generally speaking, be more limited than it currently is.

You didn't ask the gay marriage one, but I am pro-marry whomever you'd like.  I am also pro- government getting it's abnormally large nose out of peoples marriages overall.

Racism exists in many forms which is a same but reality. What disagree with is people who play the race card to get what they want. That only further encourages racism to continue.

I fully support people who truly need government assistance. It could unfortunately happen to any at any time. But I do think it needs tighter regulations. Nothing more frustrating than people paying for their lobsters and prime rib with an EBT card.

I live in the northern midwest. I don't see a lot of the issues with race in my area. I agree that there probably is still some animosity in other parts of the country, which is sad. However, I get so tired of the race card being pulled as a scapegoat.

I feel that government assistance should be limited. Less government is better in my opinion.

I don't really identify with any one religion really. I believe in God and treating people how you want to be treated.

    Straight

I believe abortion should be legal and safe.  I believe no one has the right to tell someone else what they can do with their own bodies.  The whole abortion "debate" is a ruse to distract people from much bigger issues.

There is still work to be done as far as race relations in the US.  I think that the people who like to pretend that everything is great do more damage than good.  White privilege is real and people acknowledging it doesn't make them race baiters or "politically correct".

How do you feel about government assistance?  The poors can have skittles.

I hate the term "politically correct".  I've found that the people who over use it,  are the ones who want to say something terribly racist homo/xenophobic.

    ETA spelling
  • Mostly liberal with a few conservative views peppered in to keep it interesting.

Raised Catholic, 12 years of Catholic school, currently non-practicing/undecided/agnostic. I don't really like the idea of organized religion, but I'd like to believe that the universe knows what it is doing.

    Straight, but mildly curious.
    Love who you love!

It's not my or the government's decision to tell other women what to do with their bodies. Is it for me? I don't know. For BC, no. But I see the stories on the news and FB of people finding out their child has a horrible defect and won't live more than a few hours, but they still go through with the pregnancy. They usually don't find out until late in the pregnancy, but I honestly don't think that I would be able to continue and go through with the birth.

I'm also a supporter of a person's right to end their own life, on their terms with medical intervention when they are given a terminal prognosis. Also, if something happens to me and I'm left in a vegetative state, pull the plug. Sometimes death is the more humane option.

It's real and it sucks. There are people on both sides at fault. Let's teach our children better.

While in college, I participated in the WIC program. It made a world of a difference to our grocery budget. Many people said I could probably qualify for food stamps, but I felt that there were people worse off than my family who really needed it. We had a part time income, scholarship money, loans, and families that cared for us if things ever got really bad. Many people don't have backups and need any kind of help they can get. However, it should be temporary and highly regulated. Teach a man to fish, rather than giving him some frozen fish sticks every month kind of deal.

No issue with public assistance being available, but I wish it was better regulated...maybe with some kind of step down ladder so that people could get a job and be "weaned" off the support instead of just losing it if they make a certain amount.

I am in Canada and feel our First Nations situation is sad. So many Native women go missing every year, no one cares. My Dad had a black Dad, my half brother is a black cop. I have many feelings about race relations but not enough time to go into. I look like a white woman, very rarely has anyone picked up on the fact I'm part black. We don't even know my grandfathers real history, my Dad never met him, we could be part Indian, etc we have no idea. Basically grandma had a dark baby, and my Dad was sent away as his family couldn't even look at him. How do you feel about government assistance?
It's there as a safety net. The idea of the welfare mom buying designer bags is just insane. My moms best friend was on welfare for awhile. She received 890 a month. After rent, bus pass, and food she was lucky to have 20 a month. She would treat herself to a muffin and coffee at mcdonalds once a week. She applied for every job she could, no one was hiring a 60 year old Native woman. Be bold!

pretty middle of the road, Christian, Straight. I'm adamantly opposed to abortion.
I hate how much racism still exists in this country and the lack of awareness people seem to have about it. If I have to hear another person say "I'm not racist, I swear! But..." I will seriously punch them in the face.
I love that government assistance exists because there are many who need it. But I think the system needs a major overhaul. It's too easy to get trapped into the system. We need better ways to wean people off of it and better ways to spot fraud.

Gross. I've seen so much hate lately it's just sad. People seem to want to minimalize it as much as possible.

If you qualify, then you can use it. Studies show that families are much more likely to get back on their feet, and quicker, when they accept aid. The vast majority of people on welfare do not abuse it and are not drug users.
  • Fiscally conservation, socially liberal. Presbyterian Straight, with equality for all, Abortion is a medical procedure and nobody's business except the patient and their doctor. Race relations would be a lot better if people on every side of the arguement got the fuck over themselves, and just started living the reality of equality. Government assistance needs to be big enough to keep kids out of dire poverty, but restrictive enough that it cannot be used as long-term income by parents. So, raise the qualifying income threshold, raise the amounts given, but shorten the duration of assistance unless tied directly to job training (i.e. if recipient is in qualified training, don't yank support 6 months before it's complete and they can look for work).

    Pretty much this, except Episcopal

Straight, gay, bisexual, transgender? Straight.Pro marriage equality.

How do you feel about abortion? I am pro-choice, even more so after having two pregnancies (three if I count my loss) and two children. I would never have an abortion for an "oops" but I can't say what I would do for certain in other complicated instances. No government entity has the right to tell a woman she has to continue a pregnancy, in my opinion.

How do you feel about race relations in your country? Racism is alive and well in the United States. White privilege is real and needs to be recognized before one can really begin to imagine what another person's experience of life is. Racism can be overt and obvious, or sneaky and harder to spot (micro-aggressions, for example).

How do you feel about government assistance? I have no personal experience with government assistance unless you count the fact that I went to public school growing up. And I take the homeowners' mortgage insurance credit on my income taxes. If you don't consider those forms of government assistance, why not? They absolutely are.

In general I have no problem with the government and my tax dollars helping to feed and shelter those who are less fortunate than me. Sure, people abuse it. And corporations abuse tax loopholes every day costing the American people trillions of dollars every year. I'd rather politicians spend energy ending those loopholes than cutting people's food, housing, and healthcare assistance.

  • Diving right in...
    Middle of the road

Raised Catholic, can't say I agree with everything but the way this pope is makes me feel a bit better about identifying that way

    Straight, pro marriage equality

Pro choice, I would never have an abortion but I believe it should be safe and legal for those who choose to do so

Racism is a huge issue. Of course the media sensationalizes controversy and adds to the problem, but they aren't creating a problem where there was none. They aren't turning people into racists, they are helping to expose them though. I know this will ruffle some feathers, but it irritates me when people say someone is playing the "race card." It just sounds like you have no clue about the racial injustice minorities face and that you don't care.

I support government assistance, there are always going to be people abusing the system and I'm sure it does need an overhaul but I don't have the answers on how to do that. I also feel that people who judge those receiving assistance need to mind their own business, they don't know what a person's situation is and therefore should stop assuming the worst
  • liberal, middle of the road or Conservative?

I'm a libertarian, which is its own thing for sure, but I like to say socially liberal and fiscally conservative.  Primarily, Im just disgusted by politics.

Atheist, non-denominational [insert your religion here], Jewish, Muslim or Christian? Other religion? Agnostic?

I attend a Missouri Synod Lutheran Church, but I still don't really identify with Christian.  I am more of a spiritualist at heart, and think there are a lot of different ways of finding what you are looking for

    Straight, gay, bisexual, transgender?

I personally am straight.  I dipped my toe in the lady pond a time or two while drunk and in my early 20s, but men are my thing.  As far as those who are of different persuasion, I am supportive for everyone's right to find love and be married to a consenting adult.  Supporting anything less to me seems bizarre.  People getting married doesn't somehow harm you and your marriage.

How do you feel about abortion?

I have a lot of mixed feelings on abortion.  Late term without extenuating circumstances I'm pretty opposed to at this point in my life, but I believe in the legality of early term abortions.  They make me pretty damn sad though.

How do you feel about race relations in your country?

I've grown a lot in the last few years.  A few years ago, I would say "they're fine, the minorities use it as excuses for bad behavior", and now I cringe at that statement. Even if don't see the racism, doesn't mean it isn't there.  There are obviously hurt people out there, who feel unheard and discriminated against.  So I think they are improving, but are far from ideal.  I try to do what I can in my mind and heart to stop it by teaching my children to live without prejudice, keeping an open mind and always seeking to understand.

How do you feel about government assistance?

Government assistance?  For the most part, I have issues with it.  I don't have issues with the concept of helping the poor or those in need, I just think we need to take a step back and do it more on a local level.  I think people should increase the amount of time and money they dedicate to charitable organizations, and step in and help neighbors when they are in need, reducing the burden on the government, which frankly is too big and beaurocratic to do anything effectively. People used to know and feed their neighbors and their children when they hit hard times.  Now we don't even know the person next door.  Assistance should start in the community not in Washington, DC.

How do you feel about race relations in your country? Racism, prejudice and bigotry exist in various forms. It is alive and well, and we have a long way to go on improving race relations. There's a good chance such is a fantasy since it's in our nature to be tribalistic and us vs. them.

  • Liberal, middle of the road or Conservative?

I am a RABID Independent that thinks our country's two party system is the basis for it's woes.  There can be no real change when both parties control the system.

I worked as a Lobbyist on Capital Hill for 5 years.  I have seen it first hand.

THOUGH I will say this, as someone with practical knowledge of how things are done (or not done) and a PoliSci and History Major, I do not agree with the basic premises of Communism or Socialism either.  I have not seen a practicing model anywhere in the world that works.

However, that does not make me a Republican or Conservative, nor a Democrat or Liberal under the classic definitions either.

Atheist, non-denominational [insert your religion here], Jewish, Muslim or Christian? Other religion? Agnostic?

I am a Christian who goes to the Episcopalian Church because I personally ind comfort and a pathway to my God through their traditions and dogma.

However, (I do a lot of that), I also believe that the strict adherence to the DOGMAS/TRADITIONS of a religious sect corrupts the faith and therefor will take you from your salvation.  Because in the end the only way the Bible says to get to heaven is through the belief in Jesus, not whether you sit/stand/kneel or speak in tongues or not celebrate birthdays.

    Straight, gay, bisexual, transgender?

    Straight

How do you feel about abortion?

I have had an abortion.  But I also know enough about anatomy and fetal gestation to recognize that somewhere in the 9th week, you are no longer carrying a lump of cells but a child.  I do not condone abortion after the 9th week unless there are extenuating circumstances, such as rape, the welfare of the mother or congenital issues with the child.

It seems hypocritical, but it is what it is.

How do you feel about race relations in your country?

I feel that there are huge strides to make, but that not everything bad that happens to a person of another ethnic background is based on the "perpetrator's" underlying racial beliefs.

I also believe that as a society at large, not just on a racial level, we have lost a shitton of self reliance, personal responsibility and gained a shitton of entitlement.  I see it with my own kids and their friends.  We are babying people.

Granted, I'm an old mom, but my parent's generation considered 18yo adults who took care of themselves and in many cases, their budding families.  And they did it well.  What happened?

How do you feel about government assistance?

I have no problem providing children assistance.
