Wool Cover and Care

I have a lot of questions these days, sorry - mostly been lurking during nighttime feedings.

I decided to go with a wool cover, so I am figuring out the logistics of caring for one.

If I buy Euculan wash, do I need to use lanolin as well? Or, should I just get wool wash and lanolize that way? Suggestions greatly appreciated.

    The eucluan is just to wash the wool. You will need to lanolize after it's washed- each and every time you wash.

    Wool is awesome, if properly lanolized; and requires minimal washing, especially if you use a good fitted diaper that will keep any poop off the cover.

    Thanks everyone. Wasn't sure if the Eucalan was a waste of $$

    Do you wash with the Eucalan first then lanolize with more Eucalan and lanolin?

    ^^ do that then after the cover is dry, warm up some more lanolin in your fingers and rub on the inside.  Eucalan is just a soap with some lanolin added. 

    ETA: I usually add much more lanolin to the water though than what she suggests.  More like an inch piece.
    This is what I do, and I also use quite a bit more lanolin than the website or the wool cover instructions suggest.

    Thanks! That's what the girl at the CD store told me to do as well.

    She also said I could really use any wash for my covers that's CD safe ... anyone use anything other than Eucalan?

    The amount of water is also important for get a good lanolize cover,and the baby shampoo is to help the lanolin to dissolve better. I usually wash my cover with baby soap on the delicate circle of the washer, but it's because I wash a lot of them at once.

    Last question. I think. Do I was it first with soap no lanolin then wash with Eucalan and lanolin?

    The girl at the store said they are (I bought a disana pull on) but she said it wasn't enough in her opinion.

    If the cover works out I'll buy a second to rotate :)

    I'll wash and lanolin to be safe. But they don't feel tacky or anything. Just like wool.

    Wool is a protein fiber like your hair, it needs to be washed with something that won't completely strip out the natural oils. Oddly enough Woolite is bad for wool covers.

    Kay last question (maybe). I washed and lanolized the cover. Is it supposed to have a smell to the wool? Like wet sheep?

    At OP: I'm going through the same thing right now, new to using wool. When I read your comment I love titted I had a visual of a soaked sheep... but looking more like a drowned rat. Idk... made me giggle.

    I'm dying to know how you know what a wet sheep smells like.

    Andplusalso, regarding your dance party, I cannot for the life of me figure out what is going on with that dude's mustache. Is it a mustache???

    @unaveragejane ... maybe a little like barnyard, but not as smelly - with a hint of pasture? 

    I didn't even notice the stache ... its a world of its own.

    I'll see if the smell is still there in the AM after its dried a bit.

    Ahhh the smell of wet sheep. ... they actually don't look like a drowned rat, they actually start steaming because wet will produces heat somehow.
    We had wool sheep when I was a kid so I am *quite* familiar with how they smell.
