Sleeping in bed with baby

so this might be a silly question, but how exactly do you sleep in bed with a lo? A is still under the weather and would only calm down if I brought him into my room. It just made me nervous and I couldn't fall asleep with the pillows and blankets on my bed.

So what's the safest way to co-sleep? Do I take away the blankets? Take away the pillows? Put his head on a pillow?

I'd like to be able to get some sleep when he's clingy. Instead, I'm waiting for him to fall asleep then trying to move him back to his crib and having him inevitably wake up and cry and start all over.

Re: Sleeping in bed with baby

  • Ditto to what @caer said. The truth is I never sleep too well when he is in bed with me but I keep the room warm so that I don't need the comforter above waist level and throw away any extra pillows.

  • I should also mention that DH works 3rd shift, so it's just me in the bed.
  • I'm not so worried about him rolling off the bed (though pushing the bed against a wall is a good idea), moreso the blankets and pillows.
  • @djtippietoes - at this age LOs are a lot stronger/better able to move themselves so suffocation isn't as big of a risk, although they can still get entangled/etc so it's still best to ensure safe sleep with limited blankets/pillows.

We just have a light blanket, actually two because H has his own, and a pillow each for me/H. Since your H isn't there, I'd say a pillow and blanket for you is fine. Try to keep LO below the pillow. I don't bother putting a blanket over LO, between footie jammies and snuggling with me, she's plenty warm. Heck my 3yr old still kicks off blankets constantly. Weird kids.

  • I've tried, and I can't do it. I'm too light of a sleeper. I'd really prefer that even DH not be in my bed :)

  • Pretty much what everyone else said- although he usually wakes me up with a few smacks to the face and his toofy grin :) he has snuck off the bed once (he was crawling around I sat up grabbed his foot and the sock came off and wahm- I cried harder then he did) but just be aware it can happen.
  • Exactly what @Mamosey‌ said.

I actually love when my kids are in our bed (not all 3 at once :)
I love creepily watching them sleep. I love them the most when they are sleeping lol.
