GTKY: music during labor

If you could/are going to listen to music what are the top 3 songs you'd want to hear? :)

I'm making a labor playlist and need inspiration!

Re: GTKY: music during labor

  • Loading the player...
  • Oh man, I started a Labor playlist months ago and only have 8 songs on it so far!  Basically my requirements were songs I really LOVE and could pass the "play on repeat for like 20 minutes straight and not get annoyed by" test;  that way I know it'd be a worthy one that wasn't going to drive me batshit crazy hearing in my darkest hour.  Here are my top 3 currently:

Once Upon a Dream - the Lana del Rey version (from the Maleficent soundtrack)
    NYC - Interpol
When the Levee Breaks - Led Zeppelin (AND applicable for the situation!)

    Runners up:
    Golden Brown - The Stranglers
Flashed Junk Mind - Milky Chance

  • @Nbad311 - INTERPOL is alllll yes. Mmm Love Them.

I'm probably going to have every album of Explosions In The Sky mixed with Deftones.

  • I loved having music during my last birth. I just did a my favorites playlist and it was nice to have the distraction. My water broke so I had to go in before contractions started and my husband and I jammed out for hours. I will bring music this time for sure but it's hard to pick a top three!
  • Moonage Daydream- David Bowie
Over the Hills and Far Away- Led Zeppelin
    Sea of Love- Phil Phillips

I will definitely say that is an interesting mix.

Baby girl loves her some David Bowie and that seems to be the one song she reacts to this most. I love Led Zeppelin so I'll have to hear some songs by them but that is one of my favorites. I've got a pretty sweet 70s playlist made that I'll probably listen to most of the time.
  • I'm planning on playing my Pandora! Doris Day and Rod Stewart station! DH may put some music on his phone just incase!
  • With DD, I had a CD of classical music and John Mayer. Random. But it worked, from what I remember. For me it was about keeping me calm and relaxed, rather than amped up, if that makes sense. Everyone is different though. Put stuff together that you will like and if you hear the song later, it will make you think about that day in a positive and meaningful way...... Just my two cents. Which is worth about that! :)

  • No playlist for me. Although that first list cracked me up.

I've requested the movie Pocahontas on repeat while being in the delivery room completely alone and naked. I don't like being around people in pain, I hate all clothes and am obsessed with Pocahontas.

DH was looking over my shoulder when I was reading this and laughed so hard sweet tea came out of his nose. :) I'm glad you have that type of comfort in Pocahontas! I used to think I was her when I was little.

  • DH wants to download Push It and put it on repeat. This may get him killed.
  • Probably have some led Zeppelin style classic rock going. Husband will ask to play country and I may seriously hurt him if he tried turning it on.

  • Right now I am a little obsessed with Ed Sheeran. Most songs on his albums are pretty mellow.

I hadn't thought of making a playlist! What a good idea... but last night I randomly decided I'm gonna watch Harry Potter movies during the first stages of labour. They always captivate me so hopefully they'll be enough to distract me a bit. I'm such a saddo :) and I loves it!
I was thinking about doing something similar with the Lord of the Rings movies! I have the original Extended edition DVDs which would give me a good 12 hours of video for background noise/distraction.

Have you ever heard Cat Power's cover of Sea of Love? It's beautiful.

Yes, I have! It's such a beautiful version! I really love the version by Tom Waits as well.

  • Our teacher showed this one in our Lamaze class. Made me laugh. Might have to be on my play list to lighten the mood.
