Breast Feeding/Bottle Feeding Moms

I know we've had the bottle discussion before, but I just came across the Medela Calma system and I don't think they were mentioned in the previous posts. Does anyone have any experience with them? They seem pretty awesome on paper if you plan on breastfeeding and bottle feeding. Thoughts?

Re: Breast Feeding/Bottle Feeding Moms

  • Each baby is different. Unfortunately no one can tell you the perfect bottle because yours might not like it. That being said, don't stock up on bottles until you figure out what works. I've heard some ladies spend a small fortune on a specific set only to have their baby refuse to use them.
    Such fickle creatures. ;)

  • Holy crap just went to look at these and put them on my registry.  $16-$20 per bottle thats expensive.  Do the nipples/lids work on the other madela bottles?

I believe they do, well it says other breast milk bottles so I don't know if that would count the ones that I got with my pump? I just want to know others experience with using them, obviously my LO might hate them but I want to know if anyone found the transition between bottle and breast feeding a little easier. Like I said, on paper these seem amazing!

Seriously though, it doesn't matter what type of bottle you get. Baby needs to learn how to use it just like they have to learn how to use your breast.

I hope you're right!  I feel like I'm already taking the tough-love approach to bottle feeding, having already stocked up one one brand only and really hoping that works out.  I mean, do people really go through multiple brands to find a bottle baby "likes" the most?  (not a rhetorical question, true FTM newb Q).  Who has time and effort to do that when you have a weeks-old infant for the first time in your life?

I mean........ how the hell did babies survive back in the 70s and 80s (or way earlier) when our parents and their parents didn't have 54,000 different brands to chose from?
  • @CrazyCornball Yeah, I completely understand every baby is different. This bottle/nipple just looked really interesting and they really claim it's great for breast feeding babies, where some of these other brands are for both formula fed and breast feeding babies. Plus, I know Medela brand pumps come highly recommended, so maybe they've come up with a good solution!

A lot of companies swear that their nipples/bottles mimic the breast, so you have to be a tad skeptical at all claims. If I had a baby that wouldn't take a bottle, I'm sure I would try it. I would try all of them! Until then, I'm not going to spend that much per bottle.
I'm throwing it on my registry for the heck of it, but I also have the Avent bottles on there that my sister in laws use and love. Let the LO decide :)

  •  We liked the Avent best and they had minimal parts.

Avent is the brand I have stocked up on!

Here's to hoping baby nbad will like them as much as your DD!
  • @nbad311‌ i have like 4 or 5 different brands of bottles to try out with these girls. I'm not sure if I'll stick to breast feeding so I want to pick a bottle that works for both purposes.
