Q about crib mattress

What are people's thoughts about an organic vs. non-organic crib mattress? I'm leaning towards organic to be on the safe side but I cant decide if that's stupid or not. Worth the extra $$?

Re: Q about crib mattress

  • We went with the Sealy soybean foam core mattress. I felt like it was a good middle ground (not organic, but environmentally friendly) and not horribly expensive.

  • We didn't get organic. My kid is still around 2.5 years later haha. But really, do what will make you happy :)

We did buy organic with DS but now that he's 2 1/2 I'm kind of whatever about it. We probably won't with this LO.

ETA: We also bought the one with the waterproof cover. Worth it's weight in solid gold for all of the "oopsies" we've had.

  • I didn't even know organic was an option for crib mattresses.
  • I didn't go with organic. I personally don't think it is worth it. After looking into it a bit and after speaking with a friend who is knowledgeable about environments toxins I think it was a good call. I don't think getting an organic mattress is bad- just not where I wanted to spend the extra $$. I went with the sealy soybean just because it was fairly budget friendly and had good reviews. I bought it early and aired it out for quite a while.

I could hold you for a million years to make you feel my love.
  • @saiven I'm going to think I am doing okay with chemicals in my furniture because I rarely have a moment to sit down. Does that help at all?! Please say yes!

  • We didn't get an organic one, but it is greenguard certified because it is made without any of the flame retardant chemicals. That was really important to us. The mattress was still under $100 so we feel like it was a great choice.
