Installing Car Seat

So I am 33 weeks today and the weekly e-mail we get from The Bump suggests at this point installing the car seat. What are everyone's thoughts on this? When are you installing yours?!

Thanks!!!

Re: Installing Car Seat

  • I'm 36 weeks now, and planning to install it next week.

  • I installed mine. DH is a firefighter so we just went to his station and another firefighter who is certified installed it for us.

  • I installed mine last night 35+2
  • It's funny, I just took mine out to start to play with. I'm 33 weeks. I'm going to install it and get it checked in the next week or so.

Same for me. 36 weeks and installing it next weekend.

  • I'm 35 weeks and I'm going to make an appointment to go to a police or fire station to have them install it. Probably this week or next.
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • I had installed mine last weekend at 33 weeks and had trouble with where the latch was. I couldn't get my hand between the cars back seat and the baby's car seat without giving her shaken baby syndrome. We returned the whole travel system yesterday and just ordered another brand where the latch is at the head of the seat instead. As soon as it gets here we will try our luck again and hopefully have it all work out! *fingers crossed* I hope everyone car seat process is easier than ours has been. [-(
  • We still have to buy her car seat since our other one expired. Once we have it, I will call the hospital to have it checked.
  • Plan is to install the car seat after baby shower #2 and a car wash so hopefully sometime in the next week or two before the holidays (around 32-33 weeks).

  • We have been installing car seats for many years (correctly, I will add. So they are fully secure). DH will probably install it after we have the baby while I'm in the hospital. Or, if I get scheduled for an induction, I will do it shortly before I go in to the hospital. Our van is pretty cramped with the 3 we have in there already, lol. DS has to squeeze by every morning for school.
  • My hubby is coming to the hospital with ours still in the box. We're slackers. I'm going to have him study the manual while we wait.

  • We're going to attempt it this weekend (36w+)

  • I'm a FTM and we are planning to install ours between 35-36 weeks. We get our c-section date next week (at 34 weeks) and my dr wants him out around 37 weeks (NYE) so I figure right before Christmas we will install both bases and have them checked. Since we will know our date I figure there's no need to rush, at least I hope! :-) gl everyone!!
  • We'll probably install it sometime between Christmas and New Years - so around 36-37 weeks.

  • My H is pretty good at it after 3 years, so he'll probably do it on the way to the hospital, or at least before driving us home.

  • DH will probably do it while I'm in the hospital recovering from labor/delivery, but we've done it tons of times with DD and only stopped using that seat 6 months ago when DD moved to a convertible (so it's still fresh in our minds). When I was pregnant with DD, though, we did it around 33-35 weeks and had it checked by a certified car seat safety technician.

  • We did the same thing the first time @NatureLovers‌ my mom came up from Miami and she was going to install it for us.

This time we're going to wait until our family that is visiting leaves so we'll set it up in 2 weeks (34 weeks)

  • For those of you getting your car seat checked or are having it installed by someone else make sure the person is a CPST(Child Passenger Saftey Technician.) The average firefighter or police office have ZERO car seat installation training. It's really scary the number of bad installs that get "approved."  Here is a link to a good resource to find one(they are almost always free.)

  • It's sitting under our Christmas tree right now waiting for DH to install it. So that means it will probably get installed in january when I take the tree down and notice the damn thing still there. :P

  • Okay, so what do you do if you're planning to take a car service home from the hospital? We live in an urban area and don't have a car. How should this work??

I didn't realize you were supposed to get it checked by a certified installer, either. Not sure how we would do that with a car service..!

If you install it according to the manual, then there is no need to have it checked. Many people haven't checked for their own peace of mind.
