Pregnant after a Loss

Lets talk about zofran...

Hi Ladies,

With my previous pregnancy I went on zofran a week before we learned we had lost our babies. There is no reason to believe the zofran had anything to do with our loss, but I have avoided it this pregnancy. I am so beyond miserable. My nausea seems to be getting worse, and I'm so exhausted. I mentioned the zofran to my RE at my last appointment and he had me go with unisom and B6 instead. This works well for overnights but by 9A through 9P I don't dare do unisom as it kicks me in the butt. I am back to zofran. I would love everyones experience/thoughts with it?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Lets talk about zofran...

  • I'm sorry you're struggling. I went on zofran in the last few weeks of first tri and it helped me so much. I held out on taking it but it got to the point where I couldn't keep fluids down, I didn't feel like I had a choice. I can understand your emotions when it comes to taking it but it so safe to take while pregnant and I would encourage you to take it as needed if you feel like you need it to function and eat. Good luck!

  • I took zofran from about weeks 7-18 my first pregnancy and this time I started at 7 weeks again. I only take 1 in the morning about 30min before I get up. It's the only thing that lets me get through work and being mom to an 18 month old. Even with it I struggle sometimes. It can make you really constipated though so drink lots of water if you start using it.

  • I tried Diclegis which I understand is basically the b6-unisom thing, but it didn't work for me, so I'm taking Zofran still. My script says I can take it every 8 hours, but I only take one per day. I am taking colace to help with the constipation.

  • My OB won't prescribe it unless you're unable to keep fluids down & my PGAL brain is ok with that. I have been suffering for weeks so I feel your pain! I've found a few things that take the edge off. Most are not the healthiest but when you're desperate you'll try anything. homemade lemonade, sour candy (including Preggy Pop Drops & sour Skittles or Sour Patch Kids), smelling fresh cut lemons, squeezing lemons in your water, fresh ginger & caffeine free coke. I've also snaked on wheat ritz with sliced cheese & English muffins with natural peanut butter. I hope you feel better soon!!! I'm 14 weeks & thought I was in the clear last week but it came back with a vengeance. Ugh.
  • I was on it from 7-11 weeks. My dr didn't want me vomiting afraid it would stimulate contractions. I still had nausea but it helped a lot. Took colace for constipation.

  • Ditto all the PP about keeping regular with Miralax or Colace if you're taking Zofran or you could end up with a serious issue.
