I feel like I got beat up, physically! Doctor rant

I am 28 weeks pg and I have had the worst cough for over a month now. First doc I saw told me it was allergies but if it didn't get better to call back. Called him a week later still sick, duh, and he gave me a zpak. At that point I was coughing so hard I am pretty sure I broke a rib. Took my meds maybe got a hair better and then last week it all hit my like a tsunami! I again was coughing so hard I believe I broke rib #2. I could/can hardly breath without a terrible sharp pain. Last Saturday night I go to the ER because I am in so much pain I cant lie down. Tiny side bar, lets remember I am 28 wks pg and I now have been so sick for weeks that I have no appetite. The doc basically leveled me for not waiting until today(Monday) to see a reg doc. Her only suggestion was a steroid and vicodin. I told her I take a steroid everyday to maintain pregnancy and her response was "oh, you had to be a complicated one" and then just handed me the script for vicodin. She didn't even attempt to come up with something else to help. Lo and behold, here it is Monday and now I cant even get out of bed alone I am in so much pain, I feel as though someone beat my ribcage to a pulp with a hammer. I am livid and worried for baby, how can this be good for her either!!! I am headed back to the doc and hoping for something that actually works!! If you read this far you deserve a gold star!!!

Oh wille. That is just awful! I am so sorry. I had a cough while I was pregnant with E that lasted a few weeks, and I remember how painful that was. As uncomfortable as it might be, don't leave the doctor today without something to help you. I think my OB okayed robitussin, but only the regular one, not the DM or something.
There has been a ridiculous cough going around my office building. Lasting months. And these people keep going to the doctor, and first get told it's allergies, then a cold, then they get inhalers, when the inhaler doesn't work, they tell them it's acid reflux. It's been ridiculous, and I am livid for these people getting the runaround from the doctors. I really hope your doctor can help you, and you can get some rest soon.

Ugg, how miserable! My OB ok'd plain old Robitussin also. I've had horrid congestion for almost 6 week now, but only a mild cough. I hope you get some relief soon! The good news is that for as bad as you feel, baby is doing just fine in there! They get what they need (extreme cases exluded) even if we don't.

They gave antibiotics for pneumonia and a neb machine! I hopefully will finally feel better!! The only good thing about it was I gained like 3 lbs in 2 weeks so I know baby is doing ok lol!

I had a similarly crappy ER experience when pregnant with my first. ER docs REALLY don't like seeing pregnant women. My OB had even sent me over there after my visit based on my symptoms (I was having pain radiating up and down my arm on an ongoing basis), and the doctor treated me like a hypochondriac. The best part was he even told me his wife was 6 months pregnant, and he was still being such an ass. It was such a horrible experience I ended up reporting him to the hospital (not sure anything came of it, but I certainly felt better). It's just so ridiculous. He actually told me the ER was for people who were dying or extremely sick, i.e.. not me. I wanted to throat punch him!

I had a similar experience when I got pneumonia while pregnant with #1. My OB made me feel terrible for going to urgent care after being sick for 20 days. Hope you are feeling better!!

I also broke ribs this summer from a couch/vomiting episode at 23 wks pg with twins. No one would give me painkillers. Order an abdominal binder on Amazon. Fold it in half and use up high under you boobs. It was the only thing. that helped. I slept in a recliner. I ordered a big one to accommodate the belly. This is what I got:
