3rd trimester insomnia is a joke of immeasurable cruelty

At a time when we can very nearly see those newborn sleepless nights in the distance there is nothing more frustrating than 3rd trimester insomnia.

I sleep typically no more than 4 hours every not, but not constantly. My slumber is frequently interrupted by either the need to use the bathroom or searing hip pain. I have tried many pillow combinations and nothing helps. The moment i roll over, the pillows have to be reconfigured, which means i have to wake up to fix them.

Thankfully i know from experience that this hip pain will stop the moment my baby is born. But of course this is where the irony steps in.

  • I figure it is my body's way of preparing me to be a light sleeper after Bubz is born. I tell myself at least those sleepless nights will be accompanied by daytime naps when I don't have to go to work.

  • @digwriter I feel you, girl. I could have written this myself. Between the hip pain, the need to pee, and the anxiety of checking things off my to do list, I haven't logged a good night's sleep in weeks.

I've been trying to take a bath every night to help me sleep and alleviate the hip pain, and hasn't really helped. When you find the magic formula, let me know!

  • Trust me i am desperately searching for that ellusive magic formula. My coworkers and dh would also like me to find it, because i have become quite insufferable during the daytime as a result of my sleeplessness.

  • It is so miserable that I cried before bed last night.  I was so tired, but I knew I wasn't going to get any satisfying sleep.

Word. That is all. I'm perma- hausted' And if my husband tells me one more time that he didn't get a good nights sleep because I was tossing/peeing/snoring I will need to smother him with my sleepless body!
Send him to the couch! DH hasn't slept in our bed for about a month, he's been comfortably in the guest room. Better sleep for everyone!

  • I take turns sleeping in our firm bed and the soft bed in the basement I found it helps my hips to rotate firmness every couple nights! I got a 12 hour sleep the other day (long story involving wrong drink that ended up having whisky in it) and it's like my body has decided I don't need to sleep since. So I'm lucky to get 3-4 hours a night too.

I feel ya. This baby has popped out one of my ribs on the left side so finding a comfortable position is impossible.

  • Definitely joining the insomnia club.

Waking myself up from choking on my snoring is a new one.  Then there's the peeing every 3-4 hours and rolling over then readjusting the pillows.  Along with the 3:30am brain thinking it's ready to go for the day.  Even if I only slept for 4 hours.

Add in the dog who thinks she needs to be touching my belly every time I'm laying down, and a hubby who loves to cuddle.  I'm pretty close to setting up shop in the spare bedroom.

  • My DH doesn't even notice all of my comotion as I'm tossing and turning.  When he asks how I slept and I tell him like shit, he just has this look on his face "well, I didn't seem to have a problem".  I slept on the couch the other night and it was more comfortable than the bed.  I've been wondering if we know someone who will let us borrow a recliner for the next three months!

  • Oh I feel ya' on this one for sure.  I treasure those rare weekends with nothing planned so I can nap when I feel like it and try to "catch up" on some sleep.

  • I'm in the same boat. Can't turn off my mind, leg cramps, need to pee, waking at 2 am thinking it's morning, and a 14 month old who still hasn't gotten the sleep memo. Who knew you could feel this tired and still function?
  • I'm jumping on this train. Between the not being able to get comfortable, the dry sinuses, the restless legs, the back pain, the need to pee, and the brain that won't stop. I just can't deal anymore! I was switching on and off sleeping on the couch due to DH's snoring keeping me up, but the couch kills my back. I've tried my Snoogle pillow but it's too big. I miss sleep. And I know it's not going to show up any time soon. Welcome to mommy life a bit early, I guess.

  • I'm with you between the peeing, tossing to get comfortable, and most of all searing heartburn, I havnt slept well in weeks. I have been sleeping on my couch for 4 weeks now, my couch is super comfortable, and my husband tosses and turns so much in his sleep it keeps me up.
  • I usually "pre sleep" on my couch for an hour or so before trying to sleep in bed. Iy sort of helps, but not much.

  • I've woken up at 4:07am the last three nights. Ok body, you're going to wake up in the MOTN, at least you are giving me something interesting to think about while I toss and turn ("Can my baby tell time?" "Should I call the Guinness Book of Records, because three nights is a streak now, right?" etc).

  • All this!! Add to it a new amazing bit of sciatica that stops me from being able to fall asleep. It's been so bad the last 24 hours I just wanna cry.

This happened to me for several weeks with my last one. Water broke at the same time.
  • I can totally relate! I wasn't expecting this until the last month or so. Totally caught me off guard!
