Cyst on ovary

I had my first ultrasound today at 9 weeks. Everything is great with the baby! It's measuring where it should be and the heartbeat was at 186! But the doctor said I have a small cyst on one of my ovaries. She said it wasn't a cause for concern. She said it would dissolve by itself before the second trimester. And she said that was the cause of my nausea?? Seems kind of weird, I always thought the nausea came from the hormones. Anyone have experience with this?

Re: Cyst on ovary

  • It sounds like she's referring to your corpus luteum cyst (where the egg you ovulated last came from). It secretes hormones to keep your pregnancy going until the placenta takes over.

    In a nutshell.

  • That makes more sense! Is that a really common thing?
  • Yep. You have one every time after ovulation. How long it lasts depends on if the egg gets fertilized.

  • I've in the past had ovarian cysts... Not the corpus luteum, and they can be painful but I've never had it cause nausea before. I'm sure your nausea is from your hormones. The cysts I've had have always gone away on their own.
  • I have one and @beepity‌ has it 100% correct. Mine however is quite large over 7cm so mine is being monitored every other week.
