Need Opinions - 2nd flu shot

So we were planning on getting our DD's 2nd flu shot today.  But yesterday at Thanksgiving we were around ton of family, which included 4 kids ranging from 2-7 yrs old.  One of them it turns out had Croupe, which we didn't know about until the end of the night when his mom gave him medicine.  I emailed his mom this morning and asked about it and she said that "he showed early signs of it so I called the DR and he started meds.  It's not contagious"...she said.  She gave me no time frame of when he started the meds, but said her son had gotten the flu shot earlier this week.  Her son looked fine yesterday and was playing with the other kids and didn't look really sick.  But now I'm worried that my DD and my 2 year old son may have caught it!!  So, should I still get her 2nd flu shot today?  Or wait it out another week to see if she gets sick?  I'm so torn and stressed about what to do!!!  We wanted to get her the shot last week but she ended up catching the cold I had 2 weeks ago, which she's just getting over now.  She only has a little stuffy nose still.  What do you guys think I should do????

  • Thanks guys.  I called the pedi office and spoke to a nurse since the doc was out of the office today.  She said that Croup itself is not contagious, its the underlying cold/virus that is contagious.  She said kids will get the same cold, and some will develop croup and others wont.  It's the child's own body's reaction to the cold/virus.  So she said that my kids may have been exposed to whatever cold this child had, but not to worry about DD getting croup from it.  So she recommended getting the flu shot.  It seemed like the nurse was more concerned about the fact the DD was still getting over a cold, rather than being exposed to croup.  She kept asking if my DD had any green snot and if she was getting over the cold or still seemed congested, etc.  But then she said, as long as DD does not have a fever and a bad cold, that just a runny nose is fine to get the shot.  So it looks like we'll be getting it today.  I'm still a bit nervous about it though.  =/
  • My son was fussy for almost a week after getting his first shot, so when it came time to get his 2nd one he had hand, foot and mouth disease, then a cold, then croup, just back to back to back with no real recovery time.  We just got back from Disney and I've yet to get his 2nd one.  To be honest I might not...we shall see.
