Fetal fibronectin test

I know I don't start many discussions here, and I'm not super active, but I do lurk a lot and read posts.

That being said, I've had some increased BH contractions over the thanksgiving holiday. Called the dr twice after hours, the last being last night. I already had an appt scheduled for today so she said as long as the contractions continued to taper off, they would do the fetal fibronectin test this morning. It tests for an increased chance of preterm labor.

My test came back positive. So now I am out of work, going to get steroid shot starting tomorrow. When she checked my cervix this morning, she said it was thinning, but didn't give me a number. She also said there was no pressure on it, so that is a good sign.

I'm so nervous... Dd was born at 33+3 and that will be this Saturday. I want this baby to stay put and stay in until after Christmas when I will be closer to full term.

    That's scary.

    Lots of thoughts and prayers; hopefully baby decides to stay nice and cozy for a while yet!

    A positive fFn can mean you will go in the next two weeks, so hopefully you get the full 2 weeks before delivering if not longer. Sorry you're having to deal with this.

    Thanks for the clarification @grumpycat88‌. The Ob did tell me that this morning when she did the test but she kind of blew it off like she didn't expect it to be positive.

    When dd was born, I had an insulin pump malfunction the week before she was born and that was most likely the catalyst that started labor. This time there is nothing. Which makes it even more frustrating.

    I just had this done last week. As PPs said, a positive result just means that you are at a higher risk of going into labor during the next two weeks. It is not a guarantee that you WILL go into labor that soon.

    It sounds like your doctor is optimistic that you have some more time. Hopefully that's the case and your baby stays put for a few more weeks!

    Right around the 2 week mark after the positive fFn my water broke and she was born.
    That said, I had another positive around.... 28 weeks? My weeks are fuzzy, I would have to look- I think I was 28 weeks, though.  And nothing happened.  
    Negative is always better, of course. But a positive doesn't necessarily mean anything. It CAN, though.  But as you can see, I had two positives and only one that ended up actually happening.

    Hopefully your LO stays in longer!
