Headed to the cardiologist...UPDATED!

just left my 16 week appointment with a referral to a cardiologist for my heart. My doctor heard some irregularity in my heart beat and now I'll be going for a stress test and echocardiogram. She says there's nothing to be concerned about until we learn more information but I can't help but be nervous.

Has anyone else ever dealt with this? My mother did have heart disease but I am unsure if these can be related. Waiting to talk to my father, who is a physician, for some peace of mind. :/

Update: I just left UCSF and my heart is all good. My Dr wasn't worried one bit - no follow up needed. My echocardiogram and EKG are 100% normal and very healthy! I have respiratory related arrhythmia… which means that my heart sounds a little different when I'm breathing. Also, she said some irregularity is normal due to the extra bloodflow I have going in my pregnancy.

She definitely said to keep up my walking. :) huge sigh of relief! Now off to my anatomy scan.

Thanks for all the thoughts and love!

I've had to go to the cardiologist because of palpitations (while on fertility meds), that ended up being diagnosed as induced by progesterone supplements.

I hope that you get good news that it isn't anything worrisome!

FX everything goes well. May I ask what symptoms you were having? I've been having heart palpitations for the past 2-3 weeks with no other symptoms, so I'm just wondering if I'm normal.

I didn't have any symptoms. I was in for my routine checkup and she noticed it. She says it's worse when I lean forward and when I lay down. What do your heart palpitations feel like?

  • I have a heart condition and my cardiologist told me that it won't affect pregnancy or delivery. All heart conditions are different, but you are being proactive and that's great. I wouldn't stress about it.
  • Thanks @brandy1116‌. I'm just hoping all is okay.
  • @allybells‌ - sounds like what my doctor was asking me if I was experiencing. Have you thought about giving them a call? I have not had any symptoms but will definitely be more observant until I can get in for this cardiologist appointment.
  • I had to go through that with my last pregnancy. It's amazing what can be done with modern medicine. I know it's scary, but better to know what's going on so you can take care of it. Good luck! I hope all works out.
  • Hope everything turns out for you. Thinking about you.

  • Updated above!
  • So good that everything turned out normal! I've been having episodes of tachycardia (my heart takes off and races while resting ) and was referred to a cardiologist as well. Thankfully you didn't need more tests done. I had to wear a holter moniter for 24 hrs, get an EKG, echo, and now they have me strapped to an event monitor for a month!! So far everything is normal except for the racing heart but they don't see any abnormal rhythms which is good.
