Trouble TTC

Injectables

I was originally told I could do up to 6 cycles of Femara plus ovidrel trigger. The first month with this plan (November), my lining remained very thin despite having 3 follicles to trigger. No pregnancy and I am on CD3 ready to start my next round. After speaking with my Doctor this afternoon, I come to find out that now we only have one more shot with this treatment plan plus adding IUI. Safe to say I am devastated and not positive right now.

I find it odd that despite me asking repeatedly, they aren't doing anything else to help my lining this next cycle. My doctor said it could be something with my pituitary gland caused by my lean PCOS preventing my lining from thickening and next step is injectables. Is there something I am missing here? I am just confused as to why nothing different is being done and any help or advice would be great!

Re: Injectables

  • I've been given oral estradiol/Estrace to thicken lining. I think there are other options, too. I can't imagine why the doctor wouldn't be open to something as simple as oral meds? Any way to get a second opinion before moving on to invasive/expensive injects?

  • @BunnyBerry that is my feeling too. I put another call in to discuss this. I just feel like we are skipping a step. I will be getting a second opinion if they still refuse. Thank you!

  • Did he say why you can only do this treatment plan one more time? From your sig it looks like you've only had 2 cycles with Femara. That seems like a pretty significant change without giving you a good explanation.

There are definitely things that you can do to thicken your lining. Clomid thinned my lining up so I have been waging a war against my uterus for a month and a half now. I was on estradiol for awhile to thicken it up. There are also a slew of home remedies you can try. Red Raspberry Leaf Tea and acupuncture are probably the most common. I agree with getting a second opinion or at least forcing your RE to provide a better explanation before moving on to injectables. Good luck :)

  • @mshandlebar the only reason he gave was that although I had a good response, my lining was to thin and this treatment plan might not be a good one. They are giving me one more try it sounds like to see if this my thin lining was a fluke. If I have thin lining, they want to move on.

I already called and left a message demanding a better reason why nothing different was being done. I am sure they love those messages and respond quickly to them. If a reason is not given or at least one that makes sense, I will be getting a second opinion. I feel like I am being rushed to the next step, which also happens to be costly. Ugh and I liked this doctor so much to begin with.

  • My lining was very thin on my first round of Femera. I was at 3mm when I went in for my first mid cycle u/s was put on Estradoil vaginally for 3 days and it went up to 5 or 6 mm. They still were not happy about that and said they will be reevaluating my treatment approach as well. I am curious what your doctor says!

  • @ SND1231 @BlueFairy5 Yup, all OOP. My insurance only covers diagnostic tests for infertility but not treatment.

Interesting our REs have the same opinion on suppositories. She said she would be fine prescribing me the suppositories but they have found that it doesn't actually increase the chances of becoming pregnant. It could help my lining but it could also not. She also said that they see this lining problem with lean PCOS and better results when using injectables to not only increase my chances of pregnancy but help my lining because it is replacing the hormones I am not getting. It was very interesting.

Really happy I called back and was able to ask questions that made me understand this course of treatment better

  • I never had lining issues with 50 mg clomid, but I after 2 IUIs with clomid, they put me on progestrone supplements (crinone) to keep my lining thick and to make my LP longer.  RE told me it was just an extra boost for the process in general.  It works so well I actually don't get AF until I stop the supplements!

  • @BlueFairy5 mine has only gotten thick a 7 as well, which is also their cut off for good lining. Seem to be in the same boat! Good luck this cycle, hopefully both our last ones work out. We will be doing our first IUI this cycle too. Do you know if it is anything like the saline sonogram test? That thing killed me so I am nervous.

@sweetball33 My LP is 14 days so that isn't a problem. Seems like every doctor is different but mine explained that even if the suppositories thickened my lining, it wouldn't increase my chances of pregnancy. With that info I decided we wouldn't try them.

  • On my last round of clomid I had lining issues and they had me take baby aspirin and that helped. My RE likes to go 3 months of one treatment (oral med natural cycle) then move to another protocol (medicated +IUI, first with oral meds then change it to injectables).
