Trouble TTC a Sibling

Hey AF where are you???

Hi there! It's been about 3 yrs since I've been on the message boards and this time I'm in a completely different category! Lol. I have a 4 y/o and my hubby and I have been TTC since April 2013. I got a referral to the Infertility MD at kaiser but my DH is pretty hesitant about going. He's much more of an all natural approach kind of guy. Currently it's been 102 days since my last period (thanks Ovia app for always reminding me) and I'm not preggo. (I took a blood test on Wednesday) My HCG level was <4. So at this point I'm just disappointed/ sad/ angry with my body and just overall emotional. I broke down yesterday in front of my husband balling. I just want another baby and I can't help but feel a little selfish since I already have one and I see so many woman having TTC their first. But then I see other woman with 3-4 kids and I think why can't I just have 1 more?!?! Has anyone else had a period go M.I.A for this long? Any advice?

  • Agree with @lemonblossom3 and @dani_brewer.  I would add that if you aren't having a period for so long, you have some sort of ovulatory dysfunction and all the "all-natural" sex in the world may not be enough.  A RE/Fertility specialist may be able to help you get pregnant rather quickly with the help of some medication and a few ultrasounds.  OR, they may do some testing and find a simple fix for you and/or your husband.

I understand exactly how you feel about other people's pregnancies/kids.  A friend of mine texted me last week to tell me she and her husband were pregnant after ONE night of unprotected sex (they have an almost one year old and weren't planning to "try" until this spring).  I appreciated her texting me since she knows how my efforts are going but I happened to be sitting in the waiting room of my RE's office waiting for my baseline ultrasound, so it hit me extra hard.  I'm not going to lie.  I cried and had a pity party for myself after that.  It's just easy for some people.  I can't dwell on it, or I'll be totally crazy.  But I think it's normal to look at other people's situations and think "Why not me?"

The medication is Provera and if you've gone 102 days without a period, you need to call your OBGYN.  After that many days, your lining can get uneven and abnormal, so even if you did get pregnant, it probably couldn't implant.  You need the medication (it's actually progesterone) - you take it for 10 days or so and then you get a "withdrawal" period from it and your cycle starts over.

    Good luck and welcome!

  • Thank you all for the advice and being so welcoming. Thanks @lemonblossom3 I love your perspective. My bestfriend is pregnant and actually will be induced tomorrow. I'm so happy for her (this is her third) and of course I wish I could be in the same boat. They're in texas and we'll be moving there from CA in May. But besides that, I'm in a little of a complicated situation. My husband will be starting his new job on Monday. With his previous job we have Kaiser and when I got my fertility referral I was informed our insurance covers half. When I met with the MD's nurse she informed me of the fees and gave me all that info. I believe our insurance from his previous job will cover us for 30 days. The new employers insurance will kick in after 30 days of employment and with that we chose an insurance that has a more coverage in fertility treatments. So I'm just not sure if I should go to my current OB and get the Provera now or wait? I keep thinking it will come. My periods have always been irregular but this is the longest I've gone without one. Also, I did have an ultrasound to check my ovaries for cysts because my OB said she could find one of my ovaries during an ultrasound in the office. So she sent me to have a more indepth ultrasound and they were able to see both of my ovaries and said they are clear of any cysts.

I'm not to familiar with the TTC lingo. What's a RE? Also, after going through the first series of labs after your referral what meds does the fertility specialist usually start you on? All I've really heard about is Clomid.
