Adrenaline bursts, insomnia - anyone else?

Sorry if this is an obvious question - I'm a FTM and Dr. Google isn't really helping.

For the past week or so, I have felt a rush of adrenaline every now and then, especially when I'm trying to go to sleep. I don't feel consciously anxious or nervous, but my body seems to be reacting on its own. Today I've been getting that feeling all day, and googling the symptom seems to lead to a bunch of articles on stress during pregnancy - which again, I am somewhat stressed, but not overly so. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and if it is a signal of something.

The adrenaline rush feels like the butterflies in the stomach you get right before an interview or a presentation. I feel very alert and productive and anticipatory. Maybe it's a form of nesting? I've been having a lot of trouble getting to sleep because of it - I often don't fully drift off until 2-3 AM, after going to bed at 10-11 PM. I even stretch out all my muscles and avoid electronics before getting in bed since that seems to help, but after doing everything I can, I wind up lying in bed with my eyes closed for hours, fully conscious.

The adrenaline rushes I get seem sort of like a form of restless leg syndrome, but I don't feel "crawling" sensations. I do feel like I want to move, but stretching usually quiets the muscles down. My stomach continues to churn out adrenaline and I feel super awake and alert, even just lying stock-still.

When I googled "adrenaline pregnancy", it led to some post on BabyCenter that said it was a sign of impending labor. Is this true? How can I deal with this? It makes me feel like I need to get everything done NOW. ETA: I'm so wired all the time - but also I am freaking exhausted and forgetting everything.

  • Yep. Insomnia between 2-5am (which sucks because I wake up by 5am on weekdays lol) and I get lots of bursts of energy to clean and organize and de-clutter.

  • I am getting bad insomnia some nights (as with YarMrWhite, especially around the 2-6 window).
Unfortunately I have NO adrenaline/extra energy feeling to go along with it :(   Wanting to nest but just need to rest.

  • Oh I'm sorry you're going through this - sounds exhausting. I would try soaking in the bath.
I haven't had any nesting instincts. It's actually worrying me because nothing is getting done. And I'm sleeping well. I guess I'm not going into labor anytime soon!

Good luck though, for real. I think you're probably doing all the right things.
