What should I do? Broken Washer

Our washing machine is broken and it may take a few days for it to be fixed. Yesterday would have been my wash day. I might not get to wash my diapers until wednesday, which would be almost 5 days for some of them without being washed. Are they going to be ruined or have major stink issues? WWYD?

Re: What should I do? Broken Washer

  • I'd wash them by hand or go to a laundromat (or friends house).

  • I'd handwash them but not dryer dry them and then do regular laundry routine minus pre-wash if you're not sure you got them clean once washer is fixed. Or borrow a friend/family member's washer, if all else fails I'd do the pre-wash at home and haul to laundromat. I know some have claimed to routinely wash only 1x per week but that's too long imo for anything other than an occasional occurrence.

  • I would have Amazon Primed one of those washer plungers and washed them in my bathtub.  And it would be nice to have one of those on hand in case it's needed in the future.  But if your washer will be fixed on Wed. it's too late for that now.  Therefore, I would probably go to the laundromat.
  • Yeah, if you can't borrow someone's washer or go to a laundromat, at least rinse them really well by hand at home and ring out as best you can, then wash as soon as possible. Hope its fixed soon!

  • I forgot a few of mine while we traveled for the Thanksgiving holiday. There were probably 4 dirty (3 wet / 1 poo!) in the diaper pail left at home from Weds-Sun. I washed them last night, and they were all fine after sitting that long and being washed. I would just think they would start to smell up the room...
  • I was in a similar situation (waiting for a washer to be delivered) when we moved a few months ago. I rinsed everything in the tub, then did a full wash routine when the washer got here. Everything was fine.
