Short Version: Gwyneth Kay was born at 6:08am on Friday, 11-21-14. She was 7lb 1oz and 20.67in long. We call her Gwen.

Long Version: I had been having practice contractions for about 6 days and I was really over the pre-labor business. I tried everything I had heard of to induce labor, no luck. Thursday night we were driving home from a trip to Petco when the first contraction hit. There was no mistaking that these were different than the practice contractions. Right out of the gate I was contracting every 3 1/2 minutes. When we got home we packed up the car, dropped off the dog with her sitter and decided not to hang out too long at home because the contractions were spaced to 3 minutes. When I got to the hospital I was only 1.5cm dilated (cue the crying), but was kept for observation because the contractions were so close together. A couple hours later I was admitted because I made it to 3.5cm and by the time the anesthesiologist finally got there with my epidural I was 6cm. I made it to 10cm in a couple more hours - happy as a clam from my epidural. I pushed for almost an hour and she was born at 6:08. The entire birth was around 8 hours. I feel really blessed to have had such a smooth birth. Gwen had passed meconium in the amniotic fluid so she was checked out and suctioned while I got all stitched up. I was bummed that I couldn't have her on my chest immediately, but DH and my mom watched over her while the neonatalogist worked. The time in the hospital was very tiring. We had a lot of visitors and very little sleep. The first 2 days Gwen fed about every hour, which was absolutely exhausting. However, since getting home my milk has come in and she has been a breastfeeding champion. Although she lost a bit of weight before leaving the hospital (as was expected) she has already started gaining it back - which the pediatrician said is quick and quite good for a breastfed baby. We are really just thrilled with her and love her to pieces.
