Hello all!
My DS is almost 10 months and while breastfeeding got off to a rocky start, we are doing great now.
I am a teacher and once I returned to school in August, I had trouble responding to the pump. I had to add in extra pump sessions daily, plus on the weekends. I think this has caused my nipples some soreness.
Today after my first pump I noticed that my nipples are red, cracked, and bleeding. It hurts when I pump too. What would be the sudden cause of this? Would my flange size change this late in the game? I had enough trouble figuring out my size the first time!!
I orders some nipple butter to put on them until they heal. Avoiding pumping is not an options. Any suggestions on how to help heal and avoid this problem again? Thanks!
Re: Cracked nipples after 10 months
I've had my period back since July. It's definitely not thrush, they don't hurt that bad yet. I've got the pump just a hair above the lowest setting. Membranes are a week old.
How should things look with the correct size flange? One side looks the same after pumping, the other is puffy. Does that indicate an incorrect fit? The side that is puffy afterwards feels like it rubs while pumping. Both sides are cracked though, the puffy one significantly more so.
