I have a mustache

Last night, DH made the incredibly huge mistake of saying the following: "oh, I guess we're having a boy, because testosterone because you have a mustache." Yes, I cried and locked myself in the bathroom which he did not understand.

This is all new territory for me. This did not happen with DD and I have no idea WHAT to do. Google was not a friend because all it did was show me maternity clothes with mustaches on it.

Does it go away? I'm scared to death to wax it for fear of it growing back darker/thicker a-la my legs. Or should I just bite the bullet and get an appointment because I look like Nacho Libre (it's not that bad, but it FEELS that bad).

Re: I have a mustache

  • My friend plucks hers out and I've never seen it get thick but it might hurt. I would probably wax it just DONT shave it.
  • Loading the player...
  • I get mine waxed when I get my eyebrows waxed, I don't think it grows back thicker or faster :)
  • Oh hormones. Those sneaky bishes. BTW, woohoo on book release day!! I hope your momma got over the language part and realized how freaking awesome of an accomplishment it is! ;)
@junedear my parents actually just called me to order 50 books. Yup. FIFTY. Because they are apparently over-compensating for being unsupportive butts.

@JustinsLovo I'm STILL kinda mad at him. And he has NO IDEA WHY what he said sucked. Like, none. He is baffled.

  • As someone who normally has a few dark hairs, I've always waxed, and I've never noticed them coming back thicker or darker. If its just a few hairs, I'll pluck, but that hurts like a bitch.

  • Lots of yucky, unexpected side effects come with pregnancy. During and ever since my first pregnancy, I have tons of thick dark chin whiskers. Facial hair removal usually comes with a lifetime commitment, so if it's bad enough that you'll commit to doing it forever, then go for it. I use a Sally Hansen cream hair remover every week or two. Doesn't make you feel pretty, but if you can't afford electrolysis, there's not much else you can do about it! Good luck, and tell your H he's out of line!

  • I feel your pain. A couple weeks ago, I had two (yes, only two) random long hairs on one of my boobs, and when DH pointed them out, I locked myself in the bathroom yelling at him through the door, trying to find the tweezers, which of course were in the hall closet.

They just don't understand that we don't need picked on when we already feel so much like crap. >.<

MH has commented on mustache in the past too. Way to make your wives feel beautiful, idiots! I usually get mine waxed. If anything, it comes back finer and lighter. If I can't get to the salon, I use the Sally Hanson cream hair remover. It smells like shit, just to warn you. I have dark hair and have always had a little mustache, along with several chin hairs and hairy arms. I'm a prize ;)

  • I went to school for esthetics before I do what I do now, and waxing the upper lip DOES hurt...we had to practice waxing on each other...yeah, even THERE.... :(

However, I do recommend waxing vs. shaving BECAUSE if you shave, you're blunt cutting and that is what makes the hairs feel the way that they do. If you wax, you're pulling it all out and it'll grow back in the same form that it originally grew in.  Good news is, that usually takes 6 to 8 weeks to grow back, versus shaving which for me it comes back in like 6 to 8 seconds. LOL

Also, a little side note about hair removal via wax/tweeze, if you notice a little blood from the hair follicle you just ripped out - that means it won't grow back! If only I could get them all to do that.... hmph.

If you do decide to shave, there are nice little razors our there specifically for women with facial hair. I recommend reading this: https://www.popsugar.com/beauty/Should-Women-Shave-Face-35580074

The Tinkle razors can be found on Amazon.com super cheap. :)

  • If you're comfortable with waxing, do that! It's relatively inexpensive, painless & should keep the hair away for at least a few weeks.

I've always used depilatory creams (like Nair) & find that they keep the hair away for longer than waxing. However, most websites say that it can cause a lot of skin irritation when pregnant. Depends on the person, I guess!

  • If the hair is fine enough, trimming might work. I have an electric facial hair trimmer that was around $15 that I've been using for years on my Italian side burns that awesomely keep going down past my ears. Nothing has ever come back thicker, and it gets really close without irritating my skin. But that hair is pretty fine, and doesn't come in coarse or stubbly feeling. It's just kind of fuzzy. Hottt ;)
