Happy Decmber 1st my lovely 3T board!

Is there any Christmas decorating going on in your home yet? Any DIY projects? I am making some of those adorable homemade "snow globes" you see on Pinterest with ball jars and fake snow and what not, these kind of things take away thought from TTC for a while. Are you getting a real tree or a fake tree? Also, there's a lot of Christmas music blasting around here, much to the dismay of DH. If you don't celebrate Christmas, what are you doing in December?

  • I don't know what's going on with my above post, but it won't let me edit so I'm trying to repost from mobile!

Despite being exhausted from entertaining my parents for four days and running a bunch of errands yesterday, we decorated lastnight! We have a fake tree, pre-lit, which I love because of how easy it is. We have about a billion ornaments though, so it still takes awhile to put it all together. We haven't ever donelights outside, but I want to try this year, so I plan to buy some this week and try to put them up next weekend. This will be the first year in awhile that we aren't hosting anyone for Christmas, we are traveling to my parents for Christmas eve/day and MH's paren'ts for the weekend after (both sets of parents live out of town). I'll miss having it at our place, but it will be nice not to have to worry about cooking Christmas dinner andcleaning the house before/after guests. I love this time of year!! I hope everyone is enjoying the first day of December :).

  • Love this time of year! I couldn't help myself, I started decorating for Christmas Thanksgiving morning. Everything is up but our tree. We will be going to get a real tree this coming Sunday and decorating it that day. My husband is Jewish so we will be having a Christmukkah (did not make this word up, apparently it is real) party on the 20th and lighting the candles all that week. We will also be hosting Christmas Eve dinner with my family and going to my husband's parents and my parents on Christmas Day. Such a crazy busy time but I love it

@CaitOst21 - I understand the "mixture" of holiday traditions in one house - DH was raised Jehovah's Witness so he doesn't even celebrate it really (he gets me a gift every year but refuses to acknowledge it is for Christmas) but he doesn't care if I decorate and will sometimes even help me. :)
@iPutKetchupOnKetchup - there is no such thing as "too many" DIY projects. :)
@BlueFairy5 - I love the smell of the real trees as well but because of treatment we probably won't be able to afford a real tree (I don't know where you're from but here in the Seattle we spent 90 bucks on our tree last year!) It will have to be fake this year. Maybe we should spray a little pine scent on it? haha.

Edit - I don't know why my reply put everything in a quote box. So irritating.

  • We have a fake pre-lit too, @BandM14. We just got it over the weekend, on sale. We had been getting real trees, but with the cats running around, we figured it was time to move on. Also, DH doesn't want to deal with the clean up and disposal.
We also put a wreath on our main door and a nice spray on our side door (the door we actually use). The rest of the decor will probably come down from the attic tonight. I think we're both really excited- we haven't really down anything for any holiday since we bought the house in 2012.

  • We have a fake tree also since the one year we had a real it was non stop extracting the cat from it and it was knocked over a billion times.  Ours is not pre-lit but it was given to us and the price was right (can't beat free).  It is currently standing naked and undecorated in the living room since we got a late start yesterday and I couldn't find the totes with the lights in it for love or money.  The search will continue this evening.

I probably won't do too much beyond that due to construction downstairs and total lack of time as school is wrapping up and they started us last this year so graduation is December 19th.  I still need to find time to make a gazillion christmas cookies.  I did do fudge yesterday since that keeps well.

  • It's so fun living vicariously through all of you and your amazing decorating!!

DH has probably asked 15 times this week what we're going to do for decorations. It's our second Christmas at our house, and apparently he thought that not decorating with exterior lights is just as rude to neighbors as not mowing the lawn or bringing in the garbage can. I tried to set him straight on that, but he is really pining after some outdoor Christmas decor.

He has loved every year that I randomly decorate the whole interior as a surprise for him some time in December when he's out (we have boxes of reusable stuff). So I think that I will do the same with outside lights this year. Basically I don't want to spend a dime on anything unnecessary so we can save for IVF - still have hope of being able to afford it for spring break. But you all have inspired me to make DH's Christmas wish come true. :)

Any advice for something simple, cheap, and classy, that doesn't require a ladder?

  • I put all of the decorations up the day before Thanksgiving lol. I couldn't wait! Another fake tree household here. We have two trees (one for each living room). The one in our downstairs living room is SO special to me. It was actually my grandmother's tree. She passed away last October and I've given it a home last Christmas and this Christmas. I cry when I put it up. That tree has colored lights and all of our ornaments people have given us and our ornaments from childhood. Our upstairs living room tree is very matchy matchy. It's theme is gold, red, and green. I've always wanted a tree that was perfect with a theme lol.

I've begged DH to put lights outside. He won't...what a meany lol. Maybe next year I'll bribe him. So I settle by putting those fake candles in every window (btw it's a serious pita to plug and unplug them every night), a wreath, a cute rug outside and a little welcome snowman sign.

  • I wish I'd opened this thread sooner.  It's perfect for the mood I'm in today.  After dragging DH to Hobby Lobby for an extended stay, I'm also banned from it for the year @Iputketchuponketchup.  But I second @Pinkdoggie, there's no such thing as too many DIY projects.

@BunnyBerry, have you thought of something like this?  Cute and minimal.

DH wanted to decorate on Thanksgiving but that meant leaving me to prep for dinner by myself so I ever so kindly asked him to hold off.  We normally deck out the entire front of the house and living spaces including a Christmas village and living (well at one point) tree.  Quick side story, my mom once watched a 20/20 episode on Christmas eve about tragic tree fires and decided to throw it out immediately. :-O  So now I try to make a habit of not buying them too early.
  • @dominicandreamer Oh my goodness, that is genius!! I'll have to see if DH (not an American) is aware of who the Grinch is, and if not, rectify that situation. :)

@murrt That sounds beautiful! We have just 2 front windows so that could be very simple. :) I think we'll do something with the front porch railings. I like the idea of greenery and white lights.
