So all the doctors recommend waiting the 6 weeks to heal after giving birth to have sex. What happens if you don't wait those 6 weeks? Has anyone not waiting the 6 weeks?
I don't have the energy right now but it probably depends on how your delivery was. With DS1 I had a stage 3 tear and a couple smaller tears. When I went for my 6 week pp visit I was told to wait 2 more weeks because I was still healing. We probably waited 10 all together and it was still painful for several months. This time I had a stage 2 only but I'll probably wait until I'm at least checked.
I had a csection so its a bit different for me. Everything on the inside still needs to heal so last time I gave it until I stopped bleeding which was 5 weeks. I would have waited the 6 weeks but my doctor was on vacation and I couldn't see her until 9 weeks pp. This time, my incision is infected so I'll probably wait longer.
I still have an inside baby, so I can't tell you for sure how long we'll be waiting...other than that it will definitely be after my OB gives me the all clear.
Since I had a c-section and everything has been healing fantastic, I thought my doctor might give me the go-ahead a little early. I asked the nurse at my two-week incision check and she asked him. He gave me the go-ahead to start walking and getting back in the gym, but sadly still said six weeks for sex. Sad pants. (Not that it really matters since I'm still bleeding, but once I stop i want to be good to go! We haven't had sex since like July or something. It's horrible!)

You get Irish twins
This is why I am never having sex again!!! 2 under 18 months is so effing hard!!!!
With my son I had really bad tearing and infections. This time I didn't tear, but I'm still super scared to even look down there so I'll definitely wait until the doctor clears me.
I'm wiating to be cleared and the bleeding to stop but I'll be honest at 3 weeks pp I would be down for it right now. DH has become even hotter to me now that I see him as a dad. Granted I also want to be one and done currently so some form of birth control would need to be established before the deed happens.
I was prepared to wait until the 6 week check in, but my sister told me that it's really when you feel ok. She thinks they say that more so the men don't expect it before then. My appt was on a Thursday and we did the deed on Tuesday. I told the OB--she didn't care. She reminded me the only way to prevent more kids 100% is not doing it, but since we are using condoms we are better off than not. I get an IUD Friday and it's condoms until then!!! And probably for a bit after until I feel less worried about more babies!
Well shit, I may end up with Irish twins now! I didn't know I had to wait... 2.5 weeks after birth is all we waited. (Runs out to go buy pregnancy tests)

My prenatal instructor told the group about a woman she had in her class that got pregnant about two months after she had her first. Then she found out it was triplets. 4 under 1?!!?
Nope nope noooope.
A women in my book club was already pregnant at her 6 week appointment. She is single handily the reason I haven't jumped DH already.
Funnily enough, we discussed the fact at my moms house today that my mom went to her 6 week appointment after I was born only to find out she was pregnant with my brother. We're 10.5 months apart, and we're in the same grade growing up. Such a rule breaker.
I'm feeling okay, and would love to have sex again, but I'm waiting till that appointment for the go ahead. I don't wanna "pull a mom" and get a pleasant surprise at my 6 week appointment! Let's make it to at least 10 weeks!

DH had been shockingly eager but is respecting the 6 week "rule". I'm thinking in my head that I'm not sure I'll be ready even if I get the green light. I'm still pretty sore below. And the whole BF and sex thing still seems weird to me...

A very good friend of mine (who is a l&d nurse, so she knows how this happends) got pregnant while breastfeeding and on the mini pill when her twins were 6 weeks old. Hell no!
Well...I will say that we never made it till the six week mark, typically more like 4 or 5 weeks. We were younger then
This time, we did attempt about a week ago but I guess I wasn't as healed as I hoped. So we'll wait till the 6 week visit next week-I am going to get a new diaphgram then and since dh hates condoms so much we decided to just wait!
I do want to talk up diaphgrams-we used it for 10 years before ttc this baby and they are awesome! No hormones, instantly reversible (don't put it in if ttc) and cheap. I plan to use it till menopause!
I'll just point out both external and internal systems need to heal. Your uterus is recovering as well (especially where the placenta was attached) and there is a risk of infection.
Though, the actual risk is somewhat debatable... as is the amount of time you truly need to wait for your uterus to heal. Some argue that you are good to go once the bleeding stops (or at least is no longer bright red).
This. When I worked on mother baby this is why we taught patients to wait to have sex until 6 weeks whether they had a vaginal or c-section delivery. We will be waiting at least the 6 weeks here... Sex is the last thing from my mind (LO is just over 2 weeks old).

We got pregnant with the twins at 4 months PP. My DD turned 1 on 10/19, we welcomed the twins on 10/22. You are extra fertile the first 6 months after delivery. So unless you want Irish Twins literally, use caution ladies.
I'm amazed that so many of you want to have sex. I like sex, and I feel pretty well healed, but I'm going to need more than 2 consecutive hours of sleep for a few days in a row before I can even entertain the idea!

After all I've been through, I'm taking no chances on an infection in my uterus or another immediate pregnancy.
