Late Term and Child Loss

Phantom Kicks

Does anyone else still get these?
I get them all the time, mostly in the morning which is when Fenix would move the most. It's heartbreaking.
I actually took a pregnancy test yesterday and of course it was negative.
I did a google search and it seems like I'm not the only one whose gotten these. Even those with LC have had them long after delivering.
But our course we've got the added complication of not having our LOs.
Please tell me I'm not going insane.

Re: Phantom Kicks

  • I've experienced this as well. Sometimes it makes me forget, for a second, that I'm not still pregnant. Mine usually happen at night when I'd feel him he most, similar to you.

  • Mine happen after during the day when I'm teaching. Because I'm at work I touch it in response as a reflex. I don't even think about it because I'm usually talking or interacting with a kid. I'm sure it looks weird. We lost Ben eight months ago.

  • Glad to hear I'm not alone ladies (((Hugs)))
From some of my google searches (ya, Dr. Google, I know), some ladies have it years afterwards and it doesn't appear to be an exclusively after loss thing.

  • I got these for about 2 months after i had noah last year :( sorry you're going through that xx
  • I've been having them a lot lately. I'm nearing my EDD from my loss (12/7/14), so I bet that has something to do with it, as well. *hugs* they aren't easy, you're not alone.
*Said goodbye to our angel baby July 30. 2014. only had him for 21 weeks in my belly, missing him every day*
  • **ticker warning**

I definitely got them, right where the boys used to kick me.  I could have sworn it was them.  I've heard many women go through this postpartum (whether they lost their babies or not).  **hugs** to you.
  • **siggy**

I had phantom kicks for awhile after my son was born. I think it was also because the pregnancy ended so abruptly and I didn't get to process everything with a normal birth. I would forget everything that happened for a split second... so hard. Sending hugs

  • Ticker warning (rainbow mentioned)

Yes, I had them with our angel and now again with our rainbow.  Just mentioned the latter since I do think it is a common thing (ie, not just in our heads from our loss) after pregnancy.  I agree it is so so heartbreaking after a loss.  My mind already had a hard time accepting she was gone, but then my body was playing tricks on me on top of it.  (((hugs)))

  • I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one feeling phantom kicks. I thought I was losing my mind. I feel random "kicks" every now and again always accompanied with a pang of loss in my heart.

  • Ive had 2 different scenarios of phantom kicks since losing Stanley ( I was 37 weeks). The first time I was only 1 1/2 weeks postpartum so it sent me into a tailspin of grief and pain. The last one I had was last week (3 weeks pp) and it made me smile. Like a wonderful reminder of what he felt like. Even though im now only 4 weeks pp thinking about them still make me smile.
  • I thought I was crazy!  I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who has felt this and that apparently it's not all that uncommon.  It really does snap me into reality though- reminding me what has happened and where I am...
  • Totally normal, and completely heartbreaking. I don't remember having them with either of my boys, but as PP have said, I know many moms on here have mentioned feeling them, and many of my friends IRL who haven't lost their babies have mentioned feeling them as well. ((Hugs)). Nothing about this is easy.
