What kind of crib are you all looking at purchasing? Is there a better brand? One that will last? PB is so exp but maybe it's worth it to use for second baby later?

Ours is from Land of Nod bc I had it in my head that it HAD to be Made in the USA.

DS chewed on the crib rails, so I'm glad I was that crazy about it. we put fleece on the railing to minimize the mess, and will be able to do the same to reuse it for #2.

Graco makes one with similar styling for 1/3 the price.

My ILs bought a crib at ikea for us to use at their house and it works just fine.

TBH I wouldn't spend a ton of $ on a crib. Once they start teething they chew the snots out of it. If we decide to convert DS's crib to a twin we will have to sand a refinish the footboard.

@Silv3rlining‌ We have a mini convertable crib for DS now. When we move we'll probably upgrade DS to a full size crib and give his mini to LO. It's been great so far but I feel like by the time he's 18mos it'll be too small for him.

We had a Graco Sarah with my son that he's still sleeping in (converted to toddler bed), but we're about to move him into a twin because the railing is causing him sleep issues. We'll reuse the crib with the new baby.

The Graco is a great, cheap crib, that holds up, but a word of caution. I'm 5'3" and the Graco is a really low crib. Even at it's highest setting I had to stand on my tip toes to place the baby in. This is probably why my kid never climbed out of the crib, but it is a bit of a pain putting them in if you're short. And why we converted it to a toddler bed (when he started waking at night to pee it was hard to get him in and out)

2 kids and I've yet to get one to sleep in a crib.... I'm keeping my fingers crossed that baby number 3 will sleep happily in our crib. So my only recommendation is don't spend too much maybe look for a secondhand one incase it doesn't get much use. We got ours free so I'm ok that it hasn't been used yet.

No clue, but we won't buy one until Black Friday 2015. No need. DS didn't sleep in his until 6 months; he was in his bassinet in my room.

We will probably just get a regular crib though. We plan to have another baby soon, so we would have to buy a separate toddler bed anyway.

We spent a ton on DS nursery suite thinking it would last him through childhood. I'd get something safe and buy rail teethers. We will be using it for this one because they are pretty far apart in age and we are giving DS our old bedroom suite and upgrading to a nicer set for us! If we had them closer together we would have done IKEA!

We have an IKEA crib too, and it's great. It was way less expensive and I actually like how basic it looks. We will either use the one that we have or buy the same one, depending on how well DD transistions to a normal bed.

I won't spend more than $300 on a crib. Although I'm a FTM, I picked out and purchased my nephew's crib for a baby shower gift (my sister wouldn't pick one out - she just said she wanted one that was white and had slats as opposed to spindles). I googled a lot of reviews but what I found helped the most was going to view cribs in person and see what looked to be the highest craftsmanship in my price range. I also only considered cribs that were JPMA certified and met ASTM crib safety standards.

I actually bought ours yesterday. (I know it's early - I'm only 11 weeks - but since it's 2nd hand I couldn't let it slip, besides, I wouldn't want to leave it til last minute & who knows, I might end up like 2 of my friends lying in bed most of their pregnancy cause of pain & don't want my bf to be doing it in a rush then) anyways, cheap unused IKEA with unused (still in plastic) mattress & a matching changing table for $100. Bargain! Gonna bling up the room with fancier accessories that our kid can have later as well

Plus, want to spend the money on a new pram instead which we'll hopefully use for many years.

I'm getting a dresser from Ikea and painting it. Not a fan of the cribs they have. The attached are styles I'm looking at. I agree, don't want to spend over 300. Already have a bassinet handed down.

We have quite a fancy one for DD. It's the Babies R Us "princess" crib and it's beautiful--it has a canopy, a big carved bow and is super girly. It's convertible so the plan is for it to grow with DD. My ILs actually got it as a baby gift and my mom bought the full bed conversion kit for us. However, it was rather pricey (though not Pottery Barn pricey). This time around I definitely want another convertible. Knock on wood that it stays this way, but DD's has held up great with just a minor scratch and no bite marks.Since we will more than likely be purchasing this one ourselves, I am thinking much lower priced.

I just found this one on Amazon and added it to my "baby #2" wish list. It's affordable and cute. I love the idea of a gray crib. Also has good reviews. I'm not in a hurry to purchase anything yet though. We still have to completely clear out our guest bedroom and all that. Plus, more than likely this LO will be in our room until about 4 or 5 months.

If we stretch the bank, we'll go with a grey like this and paint the dresser a grey-blue Ben Moore color. I don't mind a simple crib like yours @ohiodoxiemama08‌ but the hubs is more picky than me! Ha

Just be careful. A lot of safety changes have been made in the last 30yrs. for example, it's illegal to sell a crib with slats farther apart than 2.5in (i think? it's the diameter of a soda can), bc babies can get their heads/bodies/limbs stuck in between the slats.

Also, drop side cribs are also no longer sold either. There is a way to retrofit a drop side crib so that the movable side doesn't drop anymore.

I've seen wayyyyyy too many friends have their expensive cribs end up being expensive laundry holders, or stuffed toy holders, or diaper storage. Hopefully we'll get a handmedown, or we'll be heading to IKEA.

STM here. I agree with some of the other comments above. We bought a reasonably priced crib and so glad we did. I thought no way would my son chew the crib rails. And one day we walked in and he totally chewed up the side of the crib.

We will be getting two IKEA cribs. I have used their cribs for 3 years in my daycare, and have had no issues, they are very sturdy, easy to clean, and cost less than $150 with the mattress.

I've also never had a kid chew a crib rail, which is strange, since I own a daycare with all kids under 2. Maybe my cribs taste bad?

The first three kiddos we bought fancy cribs. Super nice. Baby #4? Pack n play. Had plans to put up the crib after a few months. He's 15 months. Still in the pack n play. Seriously. A crib is just a place for your little one to sleep. As long as it's what you like and is safe then it really doesn't matter if it's pottery barn or walmart. And I've had both. Baby is never going to remember sleeping there anyways. Lol

My DH and I really liked the RH iron crib. They recently had a sell and my MIL went ahead and bought it for us. My dad is chomping at the bit to buy us the bugaboo chameleon3 stroller - anyone have any thoughts or reviews on it? I'm a FTM and I feel like it's pretty early (13 1/2 wks) to buy the big ticket items but at the same time I can't say no if someone else is buying.

We bought a convertible crib from Wal-Mart when we had DD. Honestly, there are cribs that look better but it is sturdy, safe (it even has the plastic cover for the side to keep LO from chewing up the wood), nice looking and does what it needs to do, being hold baby lol.

I do like to ogle the cribs at Toys R Us but ours cost us like, $80 on sale so I have to say we did alright.

Since this baby will be in our room for the first year, I'm hoping to transistion Dd1 into a toddler bed and then move this baby to that crib. If that doesn't work, we'll be buying an IKEA or a basic Graco one.

@ashtonmundy‌ I'm an interior design and have put that crib in 2 nurseries before- it's very good quality and I love the look, I have had complaints from clients about the iron being very cold all the time. It's a contender for my twins cribs, although I really want the nursery works veto crib but I don't think I can justify spending $10,000 on 2 cribs

I bought the bugaboo chameleon for my best friend for her son and she totally loves it! I plan on getting the double one for myself( I think it's the donkey). What good taste you have

This is super helpful. I have been looking at cribs recently and going back and forth between IKEA and something convertible and fancy. Leaning pretty heavily towards IKEA after reading this thread. Keep the gear and furniture advice coming ladies!

Just be sure to check the recalls on IKEA - I feel like every time I'm on their website there is a crib recall. They had been my first choice for a crib until I noticed that.

WalMart shipped the crib free, so I had them deliver it to me at work and the delivery guy put it straight into the back of my car for me lol

I must have an unusual child. DD loved her crib, never tried To climb out and never chewed it!

We will be reusing her crib (baby cache - heritage from babies r us)
It's been a wonderful crib.
If I were doing it again without DH's picky input I would have gone for a non convertable one and probably a cheaper one. Toddler rails for her bed were more than a new toddler bed!
Plus I know I will get tired of looking at the same thing for 20 years lol.
So DD is gettin a big bed and baby #2 gets the crib.

@ashtonmundy‌ I'm a FTM so it's hard for me not to go out and by the best, coolest stuff, I'm trying to be somewhat practical ( im guessing you're the same) I actually had a silver cross pram when I was a baby ( Im originally from the UK) They are hugeeeee but def have a pretty look to them, not my style but I can see the appeal. The bugaboo has a lot of special options- like Andy Warhol collection fabric options.

We bought a fahncy crib for DD. It's still in perfect condition (like new!) because guess how many hours she's spent in it?

Bedsharing and then cosleeping worked best for us. This time, though, I am considering a mini-crib and then sidecar-ing that to our bed. We'll see. I'm still working on having DD sleep on her mattress (in our room) for the majority of the night first.

Cheap nursery set from Target, re-using for #2. DS never slept in it more than 2 hours at a time, and he sprawls too much to use the toddler bed conversion (he does the splits when I first lay him down at night. It's crazy.) Used the rail covers, which he chewed on quite often.

We had a 3 in one with our first. I wont do that again. We felt obligated to put our son into a double bed now, and his room really cant handle it (He had a bigger room at our old house).

2.0 will have whatever crib is on sale at sears, and then go into a twin bed.

@slr1229‌ I was going to do my crib and changing table from PB but my parents decided they were buying the set and I felt bad for wanting something so pricey. Check out Million Dollar Baby! Their stuff compares to PB in term of quality and style, but is significantly cheaper. I actually like the MDB set that I picked better then PB! Hope that helps.

Thanks @Jna0407‌ we are going with the Kendall in white from PB. It should last us a long time. We have lots of hand me downs so this is our only purchase!
