You know what's sad, @ooopswediditagain? You're bringing up old negative posts but I haven't seen you commenting or offering support for any of the recent loss threads we've had. Or, since you're "older and wiser" and have at least one other kid, commenting on any of the other posts where people are asking for advice on baby gear or maternity gear or anything like that...
I think the real point is not about repeat posts/questions. It's that the "WE", or the self described "ladies that make this a community" are swooping in to nearly every thread like this with incorrect facts.
Just because quickening is unlikely at 12-13 weeks does not mean it is impossible. Until you can provide scientific evidence that it is impossible, you should climb down off your self righteous high horse and stop calling people idiots for asking.
As a FTM (and clearly someone who loves anecdotal evidence) you don't know shit anyway.
Ugh, the immaturity from the herd here, the ones who seem to know everything about fetal movements and for that matter when anyone can and will possibly "show" (again, without citing a single peer reviewed source), is obnoxious.
I'm betting most of you have been to college. Act like it. If you want to call someone an idiot and proclaim their question to be stupid and impossible, I'll say again: Bring it. Be the grown up educated woman you claim to be, and BRING THE SCIENCE.
I'll wait.... Let's have an educated debate. Or can't you handle that?
I'm guessing my challenge will go unaccepted in favor of more "no repeat posts" type of crap. But the point remains even IF this is was the first time it was ever asked, no one here claiming that "WE prefer facts/reality" has actually provided any.
I realize that bringing science to a bitch fight is probably futile. But maybe, just maybe one of you will see the hypocrisy of your posts and will welcome and open and educated discussion on the topic of quickening. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Actually the one thing I've seen you do well on here is support women who've experienced loss. I've experienced loss myself. And my sister has had 4 Miscarriages and a full term due day still born. So I am well aware of how very important loss support is. Somewhere between that and posts like this there is a very sad bunch of groupies who think it's fun to ridicule others.
Holy fuck let it die already guys. Trolls be trollin, mean girls keep rollin.
Awww... Just as predicted. Science scares mean girls.
There are about 25 other threads, this week, many them in which Posters like you (probably even you) like to belittle or make fun of people for asking stupid questions, and then in the next sentence say something that is medically incorrect. I can let this thread die and continue the discussion in any.one.of.those.threads.
Which would you prefer? Or are you going to reply with snark, and deflect again? WHERE IS THE ANSWER ON SCIENCE? If you're gonna be a meanie, at least be right.
I always miss all the fun, it seems. Let me know if I've correctly interpreted the key points of this thread, okay?
1) If I make a dozen consecutive posts all about how I'm better than the rest of you, it automatically makes me better than the rest of you.
2) We're all afraid of being bitchslapped by science (even though most of us mean girls have figured out that strange science of changing our handles away from Defaultname[stringofnumbers]).
Did I get it? Did I did I did I? Do I win a gold star, or at least some leftover pie?
That's all you got? If you are going to ignore a legitimate question, don't bother posting. Your ignorance is showing. It's embarrassing.
Someone points out that those berating have no evidence for their bullying, and requests an adult discussion. Yeah.... That's "crazy". (Insert sarcasm font)
I've clearly ruined your mean girl party by pointing out that you are wrong. :-(
Seriously, let's have the debate. If the OP is soooo wrong, how do you know her to be wrong? I'm not a WK, I just want to learn more. The more research I read, the more I learn. So, bring it.
Now... I'll predict there will be at least 3 more posts like yours before I get a real adult answer... in 3....2....1....

I wonder why people that have already read posts that are of a similar nature bother to read another.
And I wonder why you don't find another pregnancy forum to read and spread your disillusioned sunshine. We encourage FACTS and ReALITY here.
I have ask this once and NOT.ONE.PERSON answered. Since you seem to know for FACT that no woman in the universe can feel a fetus move at 13w can you please cite your source? I'd be interested in reading the research articles. I have access to academic journals and can search for full articles if you proved the abstract.
Since you seem adamant about telling people they are wrong, and that your reality is correct, can you please provide you "facts" you seem to proclaim?
If you're so interested in research articles you'd know they don't even begin to test the veracity of maternal perception of fetal movement until 20 weeks. But I guess that doesn't mean anything to you? All those researchers and scientists must just be purposely not including the huge amounts of 13 weekers who are actually feeling movement. Or not.
Fetal movement occurs when the fetus contacts the uterine wall. (Murray, Antepartal and Intrapartal Fetal Monitoring). This occurs roughly around 16 weeks in multiparity mothers. "Before this time, fetal movements are too fine to be noticed." (Blackburn, Maternal, Fetal, and Neonatal Physiology: A Clinical Perspective.) (Cunningham, Leader, and Sorokin publications put this as early as 14 weeks for multiparity moms.)
There are numerous (I quit after I found 5) studies about the high false positive rate of maternal perception of fetal movement versus what was seen on ultrasound, and that's later in pregnancy. I know you're anti-common sense, but do you think that the high false positive rate is going to be higher or lower with a smaller fetus, larger uterus, and less gross movement? (since many of these perception studies found that mothers couldn't feel an individual limb, but could when the entire torso or multiple limbs moved). (Gupta, Comprehensive Textbook of Obstetrics and Gynecology; Kiselevsky et al, Maternal and Ultrasound Measurement of Elicited Fetal Movement; Schmidt, Maternal Perception of Fetal Movement and Realtime Ultrasound Findings, Lecanuet, Fetal Development a Psychobiological Perspective.)
Yes it is possible, I have felt my baby at 11 weeks . it even says that your babu starts moving at 10 weeks, some people are just more aware of their bodies. And this is ridiculous, how will you guys riducle someone for asking a question? This whole group is about support, if you can't support other women or answer questions without a problem then I do not know why you should do so.
Is this seriously turning into a debate and is now being pushed to page one?!
I don't see the big deal whether science or not, if they can feel the baby or not. My main concern is that people are asking the SAME question over and over again! Use the search button to see if it's been asked before you ask it! I feel so sorry for those who have had loses that are now going to be pushed to page God knows what because this stupid thing is turning into a debate!

END QUOTE
Now this is an excellent answer. (I hearby eat my words regarding my prediction of 3 irrelevant posts) Well done. Thanks for the citations, I'll head to read them.
To clarify though, I never made the claim that quickening routinely happens early, or that there aren't false positives. I pointed out that it is possible, and that any claims that it is IMPOSSIBLE are not based in fact. Answer the OP by saying "it's very unlikely". But to say "It's impossible" is in fact, incorrect. I'll read what you cited, but I would guess they say "unlikely" rather than "impossible". The most recent article in AJOG noted that maternal age, body size, uterine position, and number of pregnancies, etc are major factors in how early quickening is detected. Have you found evidence to the contrary?
It's the idea that anyone can say with certainty (hence the word impossible) what others are experiencing that bothers me. And here, it's done in such a belittling way. Pregnancy isn't 40 weeks exactly. Ovulation is often pinpointed by day, but a day is 24 hours and conception can happen up to 48 hours after ovulation. Babies are various sizes (full term, healthy babies can vary by 5+ pounds). Just because an u/s says someone is 10w4d doesn't mean they are EXACTLY that far along. There is a good bit of variability in fetal size. This there will be variability of experience.
My point is that we are all different. Our babies are different. Our bodies are different. We have different experiences. Tell someone "what you are experiencing is unlikely", fine. But to say "you are an idiot, that is IMPOSSIBLE" is rude, childish, and factually incorrect. You can't possibly know for sure. The threads about showing are another example of this same thing here. Claiming that someone with a bump at 13w6d is a liar, but at 14w1d because "showing before 14w is impossible... Look at this diagram" is stupid and pointless. And downright just obnoxious (especially when the diagram itself is 60 years old).
I honestly thank you for your cordial and thoughtful reply. Thank you. I appreciate the reasoned debate, and I welcome your thoughts on my comments.
Yes it is possible, I have felt my baby at 11 weeks . it even says that your babu starts moving at 10 weeks, some people are just more aware of their bodies. Ehhhh.... It's not because "people are more aware". That's patronizing, and you are implying that women who don't feel quickening until 20 weeks "just aren't trying hard enough to be aware of their own body". Which is a shitty thing to say.
Difference in feeling quickening is related to age, body size, number of previous pregnancies, uterine position & thickness and various other factors. Not ones "awareness of self".
Honestly, your comment is just as rude and patronizing as the women you are arguing with.
@Knottie48095479, the funny thing is that your desire for the scientific facts should/would make you an excellent fit for this community. You don't seem to have participated enough to see that the gentle ribbing on repeat posts about unlikely things is part of a larger culture of humor here, and even that pales in comparison to the wonderful support that members offer each other.
That said, many of the women here, even if they "went to college," as you say, aren't scientists and do not have access to vast online research databases, as you seem to, nor would they know which journals to search for these terms or even what terms to use (I wouldn't). They're going off what their doctors and many accessible popular science and pregnancy websites are telling them about fetal movement and passing that on. They've been told not to mistake gas for early fetal movement. They're having a little fun with the fact that the same questions about showing, feeling, and guessing the sex show up here every day from people who use this site as Google, just taking instead of giving and taking or making time to become part of the community.
I think having a fit over that is honestly taking it all a little too seriously.
Rainbow Baby? {2.1.21} MC at 8 weeks {EDD 9.2.20} Rainbow Girl! {2.28.16} Baby boy, lost at 16 weeks {EDD 6.10.15}
Eh... Hypocritical, comical, a bit ignorant. More those than rude.
Not name calling, those aren't means names, they are descriptions. Your opinion may vary. Obviously.
There are some very smart women here. I find the posts interesting. I've been a member of this board since 4w, so I'm not new. I just don't often post on every.single.theead. I have noticed trends though.
Snark is hilarious. Hypocritical snark is even funnier. And yes, I will make fun of it. Oh noez! Is that "mean girl" of me?
The last lady WAS rude though (angeljazminewhatever). She was trying to WK for the OP and calling all of you a bunch of meanies and yet did it in the most patronizing way possible. Heh. The hypocrisy is strong with that one. Call other people mean, while neigh just as "mean" in the very next sentence is an art. Hat tip to her.
I'm not a complainer. I have mentioned it a few times before before, but I don't bring it up often. I have HG. I am in fucking unbearable hell with this PG. Most days I want to die. We want this baby so badly and I know how lucky I am, but having to deal with a Zofran PUMP attached to myself day in and day out sucks donkey balls. I spent last night in the ER (AGAIN) pretty sure we were losing the baby, or worse, actually dying myself. We got lucky and all is ok (although in addition to the pump I'm now also on phenergan, and one more ER trip away from being admitted). I have been admitted twice but only for 2 & 3 days. I DO NOT want to spend weeks in the hospital. I hate this. Every second of it. And I feel guilty for hating it. My pg with my son 13 yrs ago was a breeze compared to this. But, I don't want pity, and I don't want sympathy.
I do want you to know that although I don't complain much (because everyone is living their own problems), I do get a lot of support and reassurance from reading here. Threads like this are a welcome distraction for me. I haven't been to work in weeks and it's depressing. So please know that I may be snarky and you may find me obnoxious, but behind it all, I'm very grateful for you all here.

I'm so confused with what's happening here. Is the board snarky and hilarious or hypocritical and rude? All of the above?
I'm sorry you're so sick, and I truly hope there's relief right around the corner for you. You're obviously smart, have a sense of humor, and have much to offer the board.
Personally, I give zero fucks if anyone disagrees with anything I say. It happens and it is to be expected. There are going to be many disagreements in the months to come, and yes, there will be times when even those in the so-called meanie bully rude-ass club won't see eye to eye...and that's okay too.
Just don't whine that the board is being rude. It is what it is, and temper tantrums over it are just plain obnoxious.
The board is all of the above and I find it both hilarious and distracting. It most certainly wasn't a "whine" more of an observation and a laugh (hypocrisy can be very funny). I'm not sure what you want from me? I enjoy it here, I made some observations, stated some opinions, and asked some questions. You have your opinion of me, that's nice.
"Personally, I give zero fucks if anyone disagrees with anything I say." Nor should you! I'm not sure what your point was???
@abeatryn What? I was quoting someone... hence the quotation marks around that sentence.
What is your point? I had an interesting discussion, I laughed, I read some interesting articles that were referenced. I pointed out that the "resident meanies" often pretend to be experts on things they clearly aren't, and the resident "rainbow farts" group are just as rude and patronizing as they accuse the "meanies" of being. (the irony is amazing). I asked for an intelligent answer. What is your problem?
I like this place. It helps me get through my hell. I don't need this place to like me though. It's the internet. It's not care bear land.
I can think someone is rude, and they can think I'm rude. And I can continue to live my life. Is this a problem for you?
@Knottie48095479, your posts today we're not merely an observation. They were a full on temper tantrum.
You can see emotional sate of mind through the interwebz? I'm impressed. Here... let me five it a try.....
You are clearly very very concerned about me, and have you panties in a giant bunch because you seem very invested in what I've had to say. Here's a classic for you "calm down... you're blood pressure is through the roof!"
See! Isn't it fun to project things over the internet? You... are... adorbs. And while I am in hell, this isn't a temper tantrum. I got those feelings out last night at the ER. *sigh*
Edited to add... plenty of people here have gotten to know me. I've posted a good bit. Just because YOU don't care to know me doesn't mean shit. Honestly, it seems you and I are better off that way.
you rib people for posting repeat threads, and yet don't accurately answer their question. Give a factual answer... then get annoyed.
You seem very invested in me. Which I find... interesting.
Also, where did I "demand" anything? I asked for science, since people were told that only "facts/reality" were accepted here, and I refused to concede to the validity of an argument without it. That isn't a demand. Someone demanded that "we" (I'm still not sure who "we is) only like facts. So... I asked where the facts are? This has been derailed, and yet... facts. Where are they? I digress.
You like to use hyperbole don't you? Demand is a strong word. Did I drive to someone's house and hold a gun to their head for science? Tantrum is also an interesting phrase. If you can find evidence of an "an uncontrolled outburst of anger and frustration" here, please share (Webster's definition). Hyperbole is strong with you. So I will speak your language. "Chillax! You must have a serious need to tell me I'm wrong or something. Don't be so angry! You need to calm down your obsession!" (I'm not sure how else to interact with you than to respond in kind). O-o
@maplebaby - ignoring all of the arguing stuff, I posted a link to a pediatric medical textbook back when we had this conversation weeks and weeks ago. I also verified that information by posting a text from my friend who is currently 9 years in to her OB career. Both the textbook quote and her text backed up what these girls have been saying the whoooole time, that you have decided to randomly throw a shit fit about today:
Feeling fetal movement prior to 14 weeks for a second time mom, and 16 weeks for a first time mom, is EXTREMELY UNLIKELY. You were screaming science - so whats more likely using science - that the majority of these posts are mistaking gas or phantom sensations for fetal movement several weeks before its possible? Or that we are just lucky enough to have more than a dozen extra rare magical special snowflakes on this board? Because those posts started popping up as early as 8 weeks in to pregnancy, and there have been at least 2 a week since.

I answer with my opinion and as I have said to you numerous times, common sense. Sorry, not sorry i'm not a scientist.
I am not obsessed with you in any way thanks. I just find your behaviour extremely strange. You were demanding, maybe you and I have a different understanding of his word.
Also, my language is not "chillax", you like to think you're better than people don't you? I am not angry in any way, more amused at how little sense you make.
You read a lot into my posts..... Next time I'll use better sarcasm font....

Interesting. Thanks, I will search for your previous post. I am not now, not was I ever saying that the special snowflakes were actually feeling quickening. I was simply asking how one poster (the one I replied to initially) knew for SURE that they were not. As I've said repeatedly, "extremely unlikely" and "impossible" are not the same thing. You seem reasonable, and I agree with you. Telling OP that it is extremely likely that it is gas and that fetal movement at this point is very, very, rare is a completely appropriate response. That is not, however, the response I replied to.
I'm not sure where you are getting "screaming" out of me (again, what's with all the hyperbole?). I thought it was understood that one "screams" online by typing in all caps all the time. I don't remember doing that here. Ever.
Again, thanks for the reply, I will go read your previous post you are referencing.
Honestly I don't think you could stop. So who has the problem here?
Also, I thought name calling is against TOS? But you are above these rules? Interesting. Go ahead. Call me a whore again. Since you can help but replying. You know you wanna.....

I had to do it. Also an attention whore is not the same as calling you a whore. No-one has called you that. I thought you knew everything?
I was being facetious. You just can't quit me can you ;-)
Also, while the ability to copy and paste gifs from google is quite a useful skill (again sarcasm) at least make them interesting ladies. Come on! I'm stuck at home on a pump here (TMI- which means I can't shit like a normal human either.... Yay Zofran!). Find me some unique humor! There are better memes out there. Challenge accepted? You can do so much better. Give me a good laugh here.

(Gupta, Comprehensive Textbook of Obstetrics and Gynecology; Kiselevsky et al, Maternal and Ultrasound Measurement of Elicited Fetal Movement; Schmidt, Maternal Perception of Fetal Movement and Realtime Ultrasound Findings, Lecanuet, Fetal Development a Psychobiological Perspective.)

Off to download your articles linked...
Difference in feeling quickening is related to age, body size, number of previous pregnancies, uterine position & thickness and various other factors. Not ones "awareness of self".
Honestly, your comment is just as rude and patronizing as the women you are arguing with.

I do want you to know that although I don't complain much (because everyone is living their own problems), I do get a lot of support and reassurance from reading here. Threads like this are a welcome distraction for me. I haven't been to work in weeks and it's depressing. So please know that I may be snarky and you may find me obnoxious, but behind it all, I'm very grateful for you all here.

Go ahead, reply. You know you wanna!
I'm not sure where you are getting "screaming" out of me (again, what's with all the hyperbole?). I thought it was understood that one "screams" online by typing in all caps all the time. I don't remember doing that here. Ever.
Again, thanks for the reply, I will go read your previous post you are referencing.
Please, please, please reply. Ohhhh please do!!! {sarcasm}
Honestly I don't think you could stop. So who has the problem here?
Also, I thought name calling is against TOS? But you are above these rules? Interesting. Go ahead. Call me a whore again. Since you can help but replying. You know you wanna.....
