Christmas / Holiday Cards

For those of you who send out Christmas or holiday cards, are you planning on making reference to your baby at all? I've seen on Pinterest and remember from past years getting cards from friends some that are signed with something like "From our Growing Family" or "John, Susie, and soon-to-be Baby Smith."

What do you plan to do? I kind of like the idea of mentioning the baby on the card, but curious if people roll their eyes about this kind of thing. In case it matters, we send cards just to aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. And I won't do anything over the top like a photo card with an ultrasound shot or anything :)

Re: Christmas / Holiday Cards

  • I've been thinking about this, too. I'm leaning toward doing it :)

  • I'll be referring to my daughter in our holiday cards. My family is so excited about our baby girl so if I didn't reference her somehow they'd probably comment. We're writing "soon to be little sister" or something like that. I doubt family and close friends would roll their eyes unless they don't care about receiving a card from you.

  • If I can get my act together and get a picture I really want a picture of a small present on my belly (with my dog some how) to put on the card that says "best gift ever"

  • I am not referencing baby at all. I figure he isn't here yet (it may be me being a little superstitious as well), next year he can be all over the Christmas card but for now it just doesn't work for me.
  • We're not sending cards, but if we were going to, they would most likely say nothing about beta. I feel weird even buying things for beta right now because it's stuff for someone who isn't here yet, so it would be even weirder to me wishing everyone holiday greetings from our unborn.

I'm sure I'll get flamed here but I did this. Husband and I took a photo at disneyland in front of their giant Christmas tree and used it as a picture in our holiday card. We signed it "love from (our names) and baby Christine due March 2015"
We are just so happy to finally be pregnant after 17+ years of not being able to have a child.
I say-do what makes YOU happy

Why would you get flamed? That's adorable!!
Well I thought it was eye roll-worthy lol.

  • We signed ours from all of our names, including the baby's and said (debuting in March!) If we get an eye roll, I don't care!
  • Sounds good - thanks everyone. I feel better about adding something about the baby. I can be a little cheesy sometimes, but we're so excited about him!

I'm jealous of those of you doing a bump photo in a cute way too :) My bump isn't that big yet so I don't think the photo would work that well.

  • We did a photo card. One of the photos was of my growing bump, and I put:
     "Merry Christmas
    Love,
    Me, DH, DD & Baby"

  • I looked marginally pregnant in the picture we used and didn't want people to assume I was just getting chubby, so we mentioned it. It says, merry Christmas and happy new year, from our soon to be family of four. Love, DH, me, DD and Baby

  • We made Christmas cards with our name and baby.
We just give cards to family though.
  • I am not referencing baby at all. I figure he isn't here yet (it may be me being a little superstitious as well), next year he can be all over the Christmas card but for now it just doesn't work for me.

I feel the same....I am one of them people that rolls my eyes about it!! Sorry!! Everyone is different though so it's great if it works for you!!
  • I plan on mentioning baby. "Love me, H, SS, and baby C" I won't be doing a picture tho. We just got married in May and sent thank you cards with a picture (never mind the save the date with our picture) people don't need that many pictures of me LOL
next year tho, will be SS and baby on a Christmas card. :)

Ditto to both of these! I'm an "eye-roller". My cards just said "Love, The (our last name)'s". The plural includes everyone!

  • We are traveling for the holidays so I probably won't do Christmas cards this year :( BUT I think it's only appropriate to acknowledge your baby, especially after the 1st trimester and it's been announced! I've always done little updates on our lives (moving, husband in law school, our son walked/turned 1 or 2 or whatever, vacations) so you could do that theory and say "found out baby is due in March 2015... Or something we did to announce our first pregnancy was said "Have Yourself a Merry "Little" Christmas" -everyone thought it was really cute!!
  • I will be mentioning my unborn son. To me he is already part of the family, so why not.
  • I just signed ours with our last name. I felt it was weird to sign for an unborn baby. I did highlight my bump in our photo though and the card said "From our family to yours", so it was inferred.

  • We are not mentioning baby on our cards. I have no strong feelings on it either way, but reading this I had a horrible PGAL brain moment and thought "what if, God forbid, something horrible happened after you sent them..."
We had family photos taken about a month ago or so, and I have a small bump in them. Everyone already knows we're due in March, so they'll either think it's a cute family + bump pic, or that I'm just fat :)
  • We do a Christmas pajama picture every year. I've been looking for a cute onesie that says "Little Brother" that looks Christmas-y, but I'll probably end up just getting a Christmas onesie for him to wear next year and include it in the picture. I still have to find our pj's too so it's probably going to be a last minute picture just like last year. I haven't even gotten our Christmas decorations out yet.
  • @happymamax2 thanks! The outtakes with my dog are hilarious, this was not an easy shot to get.

For the record, you've made your last name possessive, not plural. No need for the apostrophe. This might help you out.
  • My original drafts of our holiday card included kiddo, but DH vetoed it. He prefers just referencing us at this point and I respect that. I would not side-eye a mention of an unborn child in a card.

  • So I wish I read this post yesterday as I already ordered our cards & didn't include the baby. I am a photographer, picture nut & crazy dog person so even before we had my son we sent out cards with just my dog. I was thinking about adding baby to be but I figured that would make more sense if DH & I were in the pics which we weren't just my son & dog.
  • I did it with DS and my dad called and told me he'd never received a card from a fetus before. That killed it for me, so we won't reference baby until next year.

Haha this made me laugh out loud. Sorry he ruined it for you.

I am not going to mention it but I wouldn't roll my eyes at anyone who did. Were all excited to be parents and a baby on the way makes the whole season much more exciting.
