Lowering the crib

LO has been pulling on the edge of the crib which is making me nervous so we're going to lower it today. Those of you that have, how did LO react?

Re: Lowering the crib

  • We lowered ours a few weeks ago and it's been harder to lay DS down without waking him. I think the startle reflex kicks in or something as I lower him down, no matter how slowly I do it. Very frustrating. On the plus side, we lowered it just in time for him to start standing up in the crib. He's very proud of that.
  • Loading the player...
  • We put him down awake so I don't think it will startle him. And he sleeps in a lowered pack n play at daycare so I don't THINK it will be an issue, but you never know!

  • Lowering was NBD for us.

I'm starting to think that he's going to be able to escape the crib in the not too far off future though.  That's scary.

  • Also, did you drop it to the lowest setting?

  • We lowered ours once he started rolling around and army crawling all over the crib (previously he stayed in one place/position much of the night). Now he can sit up too. So basically we decided to be proactive about it and did it early instead of waiting for an "oh shit" moment.

Jack didn't seem to mind.  I need some sort of aerobic step or something because I hate that I'm lowering and lifting him with a curved spine, and I pulled a calf muscle the other day because I have to stand on my toes.
  • We lowered ours last week.  She was crawling around the crib, so figured it was probably past time.  No problems here.
  • I just lowered it the other day and RIGHT after my son started crawling and being able to push himself up from crawling to sitting in 2 days!  Needless to say, we need to lower it again because when hes sitting up in his crib he can reach for the top and pull himself up.

We lowered ours a couple months ago, but were dumb and used the middle setting.   8-|  We really need to lower it as far as it goes, but it's such a pain in the ass...

We did the same a few weeks ago. Just went in to get him and he was definitely standing up in the crib looking all tall and way too capable of getting out. Well, guess that sucker is dropping down again today!
  • We are still on the middle setting too.  The lowest setting is such a PITA but DD is very close to crawling so we will have to bite the bullet soon.
