Pump Replacement Parts

I have been pumping 3-4 times a day for the last 6 weeks, since I returned to work. I am concerned of when I need to buy new parts for my pumping. I understand I will get more milk in the mornings- but it is starting to take longer to get milk out....so I can only figure it has to do with the pump. Which parts do you usually need to replace and how often?

Re: Pump Replacement Parts

  • You need to replace the valves and membranes every 3-6 months is what I read. I did this recently and it definitely helped.!

  • Is this a Medela pump?  I'm assuming your question regarding the yellow things with the white covers means that.  The white covers are called membranes, and you can pick them up at Target, BRU, etc.  They really do make a difference with the suction.  I've heard to change those every month.  I also always just hand washed those with soapy water versus using the dishwasher since they seem so flimsy.  I never replaced the yellow part.  Make sure you are taking the yellow piece off the clear plastic part, so the yellow piece is separate and can really get cleaned out.  Some women don't realize those parts separate and have buildup in the yellow part.  I used my Medela 3x a day for 8 months without ever having any issues with suction (other than to replace the membranes).
