New pump parts

Hi all! I'm due with my 2nd LO in February and was wondering if anyone knew if insurance should cover a new set of pump parts. My pump suction is wonky and I'm betting (hoping?) it's due to some of the parts, though I haven't been able to figure out which yet. I know that I don't get a new free pump (nor do I want one) but I vaguely remember something about the parts. (I'd just call my insurance, but the CS reps don't always seem on the ball and I want to know what they *should* provide before I make the call.)

    My insurance company provides a new pump each calendar year. When my pump that I got with DD1 had problems I got replacement parts through Ameda, but I would be surprised if they would replace parts for a two year old pump but you can try. So I guess I would call the insurance company and request a new pump if they give you a hard time tell them the other one is broken. You can also call the manufacturer of your pump and tell them what problems you are having and let them trouble shoot.

    ETA - Why don't you want a new pump if yours isn't working? What does your policy say about pump coverage? I guess I'm surprised you don't at least get one per pregnancy.

    I'm going to go dig out my insurance info and reread it. I *thought* it was a 1 pump per woman policy, but I may be mistaken / misremembering.

    What type of pump do you have?  I use the Medela pump in style and I've used the same one for all 4 of my kids.  When I was pregnant with my 3rd I had my midwife take it to a lactation consultant to test the motor and it was still working speed and suction just fine.  Medela has those white flaps that you can change out and I've only done that maybe 2 times. I would suggest taking it to get tested- they could tell you right away.

    like *LrCg* said, there are places that will test the suction on the motor for you. It is a matter of finding the right resource. When was the last time you replaced your phlanges & tubing? For me was always the phlanges (those white rubber parts). Had a box of them that lasted forever, then got a bad batch that developed holes roght away.
