I'm 33 weeks pregnant and my baby has a habit of hardly ever kicking and it makes me sick with worry and when I call the midwife and put me on the Doppler she's fine but then at home her kicks will slow down or stop and I just don't know what to do feel like a pain always going to the hospital or midwife any help or advice welcome !!!

Re: Baby kicking advice needed !!! Desperate mum

  • Every time I have seen someone about it they have been very vague the community midwife just says how important it is to count the kicks but has never given me anything to compare it to and the midwife at the hospital have said even less once the Doppler trace has shown everything is ok it feels like I'm expected to know all this and this is my first baby

  • I will do worrying all the time can't be good I have just been goin of the 10 kicks every 2 hours I was told about but that very rarely happens
  • Try drinking orange juice and laying on your side to prompt kicks, and ask your midwife exactly how many kicks you should count and when to call or come in if you don't feel those kicks. Good luck!
  • Thanks I've been drinking ice water for the last hour and have felt some movements so am now worrying less but have found pregnancy to be one big never ending worry

I think you need to take a breath & relax. Babies have lazy days too. If you are this worked up then parenthood is going to make you a wreck. Do some breathing exercises & relax.

  • You should invest in a Doppler. Especially if you plan to have more babies. It will ease your worries I bet.
  • Ditto the Doppler recommendation. It's so good for peace of mind. Some places rent them too.

  • I agree with a Doppler. I bought one and anytime I'm slightly concerned I listen to his heartbeat and I know he is ok just resting.
  • I find that if I feel lots of kicks for a long time, she goes quiet for a couple days and I don't feel so much, then she goes back to treating my insides like a punch bag! Haha!
Try not to worry yourself too much, but if it's really bothering you, ask to see the midwife urgently.
