Question about engorgement

Tonight, DH and I are going out to celebrate his brother's birthday. DS is almost 3 months, and this is the first time I will be away from him without the ability to nurse or pump on a regular schedule. I am looking forward to going out for some dinner, drinks and dancing, but very nervous that I will get engorged and be uncomfortable if we are out too long.
I unfortunately do not have a hand pump or an adapter for the car. Will hand expressing in the bathroom be enough to provide relief? Are there any other suggestions that may help? I do plan on pumping or nursing right before we leave.

My supply isn't great, and DS has been STTN, so I think my body doesn't produce as much at night anymore, but I do still wake up engorged after several hours.

TIA!

Re: Question about engorgement

  • Honestly depending on how long you will be away, I would probably buy a manual pump. Target/Walmart even Rite Aide and CVS have simple cheap ones you can grab. Especially if your supply isn't great.

What will you hand express into? a towel? Maybe it's just me but I would rather use a manual and save that precious milk.

    Good luck!

  • Thank you for the help! Yeah, I was thinking of hand expressing into paper towels in the bathroom, but I am tempted to get the manual pump to have just in case.
