Reaching and lifting, silly question

Silly question, but curious. I cleaned out my fridge and freezer today. The bag was really heavy and I struggled as I lifted the bag to throw it in the bin in the garage. I felt a sharp pain in the side of my stomach, but it wasn't persistant, so I didn't think anything of it. About an hour ago, I reached up to get a small bowl from the top shelf of my cabinet so I can eat ice cream, and felt the same sharp pain from earlier. I think I may have just tweaked something. Are there legit lifting/reaching restrictions while pregnant? I don't want to do anything stupid and end up hurting myself or the baby.

Re: Reaching and lifting, silly question

  • There is no set guideline for weight. I could dead lift 80 lbs while exercising and later hurt myself lifting a 20 lb bag of dog food. If it isn't consistently hurting, or you aren't spotting at all, I would think you are fine. You've probably stretched a ligament that was already tight from natural growing. Definately bring it up with your doctor at your next visit though.

  • I agree, with my first pregnancy I was a cna lifting residents and never had a weight restriction. You probably pulled something, and like pp said mention it to your dr at next appt. hope it doesn't bother you much!

  • I lift my 28 pound son multiple times a day.

yep DS is about 35 lbs and I lift him a lot every day. Lifting him out of the tub is hard because I can't really lift with me legs. I'm actually trying to make him a little more independent (getting into the car, etc) because I fear it'll be really hard in the 3rd trimester.
